It makes me laugh when you hear haters on BE slagging off the poor sound insulation of modern Aussie houses and how much better quality UK houses are - and then read stories like yours.

So now we have the French and the South Africans having a go at British plumbing... bit rich from two nations who's primary sanitation methods consist of shiting in a bucket.

We lived in an Edwardian Terrace in the uk... Never heard the neighbours... Though I'm sure they heard US...

Washing machines are usually in the kitchen in the uk... Not too many houses have a separate laundry... And its much more woman friendly having all the work in one room... No excuse for her to EVER leave the kitchen....

I used to live our plumbing elice... It had real... Um... Character?

I think houses with bad insulation are everywhere. I've always heard neighbours in every house I've lived in - UK, HK and Australia......We have just bought a nice big plot of land but I'm sure there'll still be noise....

Having said that, just about anyone who has renovated this last 15 years has moved on - to floating floor laminate? or equivalent. The ambitious oil and sand like it's going out of fashion.
