Absolutely... For example

If a new police officer married a newly qualified nurse and they decided to buy... With a combined income of around 45k pa pre tax, how much realistically would the banks be prepared to loan them.......??????? How much could they afford to borrow?

And not everyone is in comparatively well paid jobs like police and nurses ... In fact there are a lot of people not in jobs at all.....

They would be young first time buyers though. I imagine it's the same in most countries - you start off with an apartment or cheaper 2 bed house.

Here in Dorset, houses are a lot more expensive than where my family now live, in Leeds. But I love Dorset and wouldn't live anywhere else in the UK, so we have to compromise by having a smaller house.
In return we get beautiful coastline, fab country walks, lots of activities, great schools and a mild climate.

In fact, can anyone remind me why I'm heading to Australia????

There certainly is something fantastic about Australia's wilderness and wildlife though, especially when you're living in amongst it. Sometimes it is like living in a David Attenborough documentary with all the fabulous bird life, wombats, koalas, echidnas, kangaroos etc.

That's what I adored about Queensland. Beautiful, lush, green rain forest and wonderful wildlife - huge lizards, spiders etc
This is why I'm heading to Australia

It's ironic, because I am into the weird and wacky animals of the world I left Australia because of it's restrictions.

Australia does have heaps of places with green rolling hills, hamlets and villages etc.

I recently went to Neerim, in Gippsland. The countryside was exactly like every American imagines England to be - rolling green hills with little valleys, I honestly expected Mr Darcy on a white horse to appear over the horizon on his way to pay his respects to Lady Jane.........

Hehe, that was filmed up the road in West Bay!

But feel free to come along for drinks here in Dorset.
British Expats U.K meet anyone?

Chris, you must only be 45 mins to an hour away, depending where in Somerset you are.

My OH has informed me that he paid £2.80 for a pint of Becks in a sports club bar last night, and he typically pays £3.20 when we are out and about in town :)

Ah, there's no club called Harbour Lights in Weymouth now, but there was a tv series called Harbour Lights that was filmed not-too-far away :)
