Absolutely, some of the cheaper (sub 100K) properties we have seen on our travels are excellent as well, you certainly dont have to spend 250k. As most know also Australia apparently has the least affordable housing in the world according to a recent report, many young couples especially arent able to even get on the property ladder and must rent.
There are stacks of 3 bed semis for 100k in Somerset. I've checked. So if you can find work, tis all too easy. Given the choice of suburban Brisbane or Somerset - and a job - I would do Somerset.
For 250k you would be laughing.
BTW: the only issue I have with findaproperty is finding 'period/pretty', detached...titles with land.
I've had to go through loads of semi-detached or small houses that don't quite fit the bill. Even if they look pretty, they are either too small, in a street, or with no land - and naturally, no idea of how nice the area is. Could be a dump really.
The real estate agents - with their annoying oversized Windsor knots, polyester suits and pointy shoes would be your friend Sir.

We went to Guernsey on holiday twice when I was a kid. We used to wander along St Peter Port and watch the lads fishing for garfish off of the breakwall (might have been a lighthouse, I can't remember).
Guernsey is famous for tomatoes and one day we went to see the fishermen and they all had boxes of soft tomatoes ready to throw at boats from the annual sailing regatta if they got too close.
I remember going to an underground hospital museum, I don't think I liked it as I was very young and a bit freaked out. Took a day trip to Sark as well, that was nice. Can't comment on the pubs as I was only about 8yrs old

It's unreal, plus that house is joined to the neighbours houses either side with shared walls, what's that all about? Is it so everyone can listen to each other shagging?

Don't joke. One of our rentals was like that. She was ahem....noisy. More than noisy. It was like she had something to prove to the whole cul-de-sac. In the end, my husband and I used to join in with her wailing for a laugh. If I remember, she piped down a bit after that.

Houses sell for what people can afford. During a recession they don't fetch much - you can't pick them up and move them overseas and sell them.
