In 2005, 23,429 Uk citizen moved permanently to Australia.
DIMA maintains a "Settlement Report" website which is updated on the 9th of each month. You can extract all sorts of figures in relation to perm migration. You have to be a bit patient until the answer to your quiery comes up.

God have just looked at your blog, what a racist! Must be an avid Daily Mail reader, hope you find Multicultural Australia to your liking and being an alien in foreign country will suit you down to the ground as you'll be reminded of it on a daily basis....

People go on and on here like the only country migrants come to OZ from is the UK, and those migrants like to come across as so superior to migrants to the UK. To be honest the first time I landed in melbourne I thought it was more diverse population wise than our area of the UK.
The reason many migrants are looked down on seems to be they do lowly jobs
well a great deal of poms out here washing dogs, cleaning driveways, ironing smalls, cleaning houses, to get a foot in the door in OZ. People forget that, another thing is it is claimed they all come into the UK and claim benefits, now a UK gov link I read through this forum says they are not eligible, australia seems far more generous with benefits to immigants, rent assistance that type of thing. So in fact the type of immigrant many are knocking is probably what they will become themself. Mr racist immigrant may indeed himself next year be the hired help or gardener to a lovely aboriginal or lebanese family.
Yep australia is very multi cultural.

A lot of aussies do worry about immigrants taking their jobs. Some are quite vocal about it and dont mind saying so
no matter whos around. Ive heard moaning about effing poms, and I am 100% sure they would know I was a pom
, just ignore it people are pretty brash in Oz just put it down to that. Usually thats it, a bit of moaning about it.However, mates of ours from Singapore have been told to their face to go back to where they came from
and the kids have been bullied, little one got his glasses smashed into his face by fat aussie thug kid, mind you he bullies everyone. I think thats the worse I have heard and it was rare enough to shock me.

Wait a minute, with a couple of exceptions (Permanent Residents) we are ALL Australians here at work.
Multiculturalism is what Australia is all about, and over here it seems to work. I wouldn't have it any other way.

[QUOTE=renth]Well, my Yugoslav neighbour on the left, the Italian on on the right would think it's a good thing. Plus, let's see, my 4 South African, 4 Singaporean, 1 Bulgarian, 1 Zimbabwean, 1 Croatian and about 8 Pommie workmates would think it's a good idea too.
Same sort of situation with me the different people i work with play sport with who are not natural Aussies have all done OK. The one thing that i believe is different is that they have adapted their own lives to live the Australian way of life and that i think is a large difference to the UK. Quill

Fantastic I warmly welcome multicultural societies who'd want to live in a closed society where everyone would have to follow the same religion and have the same values and beliefs well apart from ants or very small minded people.
I find people who judge people by where they're born and try and stereo type them as "scum" very small minded and if they think by leaving UK and going to Australia is going to mean that they will only find like minded people then they're very much mistaken. There's massive cultural diversity in areas of Australia!

I think multicultural societies are good but they are rarely without problems. Certain people will always have a problem with other peoples way of life and this leads to problems. The U.K, America, and Germany have all had riots over race. These are 3 countries that sprang to mind without thinking too hard and no doubt there are scores more. Take the U.K its not even whites fighting coloureds no more (Birmingham riots).
I am not a racist although I read the Mail so I probably am but there are plenty of attacks on whites and they are racist attacks and rarely get reported due to starting further trouble. Many areas of London are no go white areas, dont think all whites are racist and that ethnic groups are not racist. My point being it affects all nationalities.
My friend here in the U.K semi lives in the states and he says we are far more tolerant of other here in the U.K than the states which is a good thing.
My point is that Australia seems to live well with its multicultural society but how much of the "original" Australian way of life is challenged. When this starts happening you might see a different side. Are last years race riots in Sydney and previous one by the Vietnamese a sign of discontent.

I will still be voting labour and so will most of my family and friends.
The British public obviously do not agree with you as we had an election not long ago and still have a Labour government
Go and grind your axe somewhere else.
