It's the eternal debate and people always have a firm opinion on this subject, like marmite, immigrants love em or hate em.
It is interesting that perfectly healthy, wealthy skilled people are leaving in their droves having gone through a real tough process for a visa.
Is it just this govs. policies in general ?
Whatever the situation - something IMHO is drastically wrong.

Angela,
You are right; those of us leaving the UK have something to offer Australia and we won't be a financial burden on it. Nor will we be preaching hatred or using coercion to change the country to suit OUR 'alien' ways.
I think the immigration problem in the UK is not with the Poles, some of whom work in my building ( in Warrington, coincidentally ), as they mostly seem to want to come here for a couple of years, work hard, pay their taxes, be law-abiding temporary citizens, then go back home to Poland with their savings.
Not quite sure about the Rumanians and Bulgarians in the near future, though.
I think the problem lies with some who have been here already for a while and those coming to join them.
I live on the outskirts of Oldham and the demography has changed incredibly in the last decade or so. I know people will be critical of this, but it's just how I - and many, many like me - feel; if I wanted to live in a muslim country I'd be heading off to Pakistan or Bangladesh ( although I wouldn't really need to now the way Oldham is ) instead of Australia.

Familiarity breeds contempt.
Let the contemptuous ones move on.
Bring in the healthy immigrants.
They'll work harder for less.
No complaints either.
Wonder how many countries this basic concept fits

I think people moving abroad would have at least 10 reasons why they are moving, and immigrants would be on a lot of peoples lists.
I think the press have a lot to answer for as well - they are feeding everyones fears on a daily basis, which is obviously causing cultural and racial tension - I do not agree with this its a cheap and nasty way to sell papers.
Also the pace of life for working folk bringing up families is unbearable - coupled with the pound in your pocket continually diminishing. The perception of being on a treadmill which is going faster and faster.
Hey I'm off for an adventure - open minded oh and of course that most important of things - the sunshine !!

Right again !
The diminishing pound !
My OH and I both have good jobs, live frugally and yet are skint and in debt. Everything seems so expensive and we are taxed to the hilt.
I've even considered selling my Ferrari ( kidding ! )
The equity we have in our house here would give us a great debt-free start in Aus, and a life in the sun.

Although I havent gone yet (still in UK) I cant help feeling that being skint, paying a Kings ransom in tax and living frugally will still be the case - if not more so - but in the sun.

US AS WELL
We are bringing in some really good wages between us both specialised industries - in senior positions. We also seem to be struggling, its incredible at the end of every month to sit down look at the pay packet and look what we have left.
In danger here of being verbally bashed by ex pats as the tax in OZ is ledgendary - however it does seem a good package all round.

So we (uk) take immigrants from other countries because "they do the work the english wont" i am bloody sick of this line they do the work english wont because they want a foot in the door. What about the next generation and what if their attitude is why should we do these jobs? What then.
I work in the food processing industry and the facts you discover are crazy they are not all "fantastic" for britain I think if the UK does not wake up its gonna end in anarchy!
People who claim benefits yet would not think twice about blowing themselves up to kill people who pay tax to support then brainwashing hypocracy.
Scum who roam the streets wearing hoodies. A government which calims to be demorcratic and yet signs all your rights away to some stupid european set up ran by the self obsessed. And then we have the brilliant human rights act.... So paying as much tax as here in Australia or staying in this fantastic country.....
sorry if your patriotic and find this incorrect why are you on this site if you love the uk so much?

Honestly its too funny somedays, immigrants moaning about immigrants and moving to a country built on immigrants, where on in four people were born abroad.
Lets hope the native aboriginal population of N QLD welcome you as an immigrant to their country
