What's your most missed shop(s) in the UK?!
For example, in my opinion, Chemist Warehouse is inferior to Boots, and the Tatts outlets are nothing compared to WH Smith. |

This is what I have referred to in other threads as the Aussie defensiveness - some expats adopt it also. They get a little upset when they think someone is criticising Australia and start trying to 'bite back'. Happens all the time, sadly. And I do mean sadly.
One does not need to have experienced every shop in a country to comment on such a thing. People don't go to the whole of the UK or every state of the USA but still form a view of it. So that's an empty and unfair thing to say. There are specialist shops for almost (I am deliberately saying ''almost'') every hobby or craft you can think of. If not in UK itself, they're in Europe and will ship to UK. Even my Australian wife and her siblings agree that there isn't as a wide a range of shops in Australia as in UK. What have you got against NEXT and M&S? Have you got the good old ''if it's not in Australia it isn't worth having anyway'' philosophy going on? I love Britain, it's one of the best countries in the world. However I also love Australia and love living here. I was in the UK for 40+ years and now I'm trying the other half here. My life is good and was good - I have nothing to complain about so I pick on Next because to my mind it's an easy target. It's shit imo. There is only one other thing I complain about a lot on here and that is generalisations on any subject. Whether it be people saying the UK has gone to the dogs or others saying Aus doesn't have something when they've not experienced the whole country. |

I'm not defensive about Aus I am totally offensive about the majority of shops that people on here miss in the UK. When I lived in the UK I avoided Next and M&S like the plague and would have a minor panic attack going into Tesco's or Waitrose, could just about manage Sainsbury's and Asda. I hated those shops and I am no different now I'm here. You don't know anything about me and what my history is so please don't assume that just because I don't like something you do or that I do like something you don't that I'm being pro Aussie and Anti Brit because you'd be 100% wrong :D

Sorry but, if you think NEXT is no good, and you hate Waitrose, where on earth do you find to shop in Australia? Oh by the way, you equally know nothing about me. |

There is more to life than Next and Waitrose  There are lots of shops here I like. I'm one alone on here - I prefer my local Woolies to any of the UK supermarkets. It's a perfect size, the people are lovely and the choice is enough. Clothes I have no problem with. In fact I find it easier to find clothes that I like and that fit my body here than I did in the UK. I am obviously the exception that possibly proves the rule. vivez la différence;)
Nope, I too live in your Parallel Australia (just in a different time zone) :D |
