love roo meat, it is very good for you too as meat goes.
i cook it all different ways: fry, grill, BBQ and even in the slow cooker in stew.

They export more then they sell here, I think the locals refuse to eat it, I guess it's like an English person eating squirrel
I have had it a few times in restaurants and it's really nice.
There are professional roo shooters up north, so the meat is free range and not farmed, maybe thats why it's good

Can you make Biltong (South african thing, basically like the american beef jerky but with flavour) from Roo?

Ooooo, excited now. Biltong is an 'acquired' taste but if you get the taste it becomes quite adictive! Yum yum.

We sell 5 types of jerky at our local, Normal, garlic, BBQ, Safari & Chili.
A bloke up from us is an old Saffa, he makes Biltong from beef, Ostrich & Roo, It is a very "acquired" taste I think I prefer jerky

Fair play! Folk who prefer jerky say biltong is too gamey. Which is probably a good description. Reckon its a 'jerky person' or 'biltong person' thing.

DS2 lives in the bush being a self sufficient green anarchist these days and he shoots kangaroos and he and his partner virtually live on it. DH loves it (DS brings it over frozen when he visits) and has it several times a week - I vacate the house when he cooks it because I cant stand the smell. He assures me it tastes good. They have both made jerky from it and both assure me that it is very nice (
) - they just slice it thin and dry it out overnight in as low heat oven as they can get - with the door open.

Biltong is made a similar way but uses salt, corriander and blackpepper in the prep. Its cut a lot thicker than jerky and is dried outside so the flys can have a feed too
.
Have to admit (OH is Veggie) that mouth is watering somewhat now!
