Just to let you know...you can ask you GP for the test before the age of 25, most GP's will agree to this.
You are right in saying that there a some women who want to take responsibility but don't fit into the screening criteria.
There are also a lot of women who have no idea that the screening is available to them.
Previous posters have stated that if a woman 'opens her legs' she should have then have no problem with going for a smear.......well check out the research regarding non compliance...its makes ineresting reading. Automatic assumptions that women don't have the test because they are 'irresponsible' are far from correct. There are many reasons including fear, lack of education ect.
From personal experience , I had a horrendous, traumatic experience during my first smear, I was extremely reluctant to go for my next one, I was lucky enough to have a choice of GP so changed, had counselling and now go happily along for my screening. I know for a fact their are many women who have had the same experience as me.

My Mum said some bitch of a nurse did her smear and she had long painted finger nails, she really hurt her and that put Mum off having smears, although she still went.

You are so right, one bad experience can have a lasting effect.

Does anyone know how often you have smears done in Australia? In the UK I had them done every 3 years.

For the record most fat people just have to eat less and take more exercise and indeed are lazy fat bastards!
For the record, it never ceases to amaze me how uneducated some people are. :(

I had mine done last week.Your doctor does it but I asked if a female doctor could do it.That wasnt a problem.I had a bad experience in Uk getting one done many yeas ago.My recent one here wasnt bad at all.She than did a breast examination even though I had just had a mammogram the week before. After putting it off for ages its a relief to have positive results.

Reading about Jade inspired me to get all this done.

Had my last one about 3yrs ago, Going again to day, As i have also found out here in OZ they like you to have a smear / The Papanicolaou test ( pap) test, once every 2 yrs if possible.

I have also advised my eldest daughter to get one as well, something that i would have done before all this.

In Scotland as soon as you become sexually active, so obviously after giving birth you are entitled to a smear test regardless of age
