I love that you can see "clueless" in the thread link. Pretty much sums it up
My daughter applied at the Coles and the Woolies here in our suburb. Both have told her that since she has no Aussie experience they weren't interested. That's for a check-out-chick. Even the supermarkets are getting picky with the Australian experience thing!

Maybe they were worried that she a) be able to communicate to customers rather than just grunting and b) would know how to pack bags properly rather than just shoving it all in the same bag.

Also, prehaps they thought her experience of knowing how to keep a store clean and hygenic would be wasted.

Possibly, but they have never a) tried to carry on a conversation with her or b) seen the interior of her backpack

Or more importantly tried to open the door of her bedroom to see what her standards of hygeine actually are! She's an absolute shocker when it comes to her room - I can only imagine if she was asked to do something like sweep the floor!!

I just want her to get on her way to supporting her aging parents in their retirement.

Oh the bliss of four weeks of Asda shopping when I could pack my own bags and nothing got squashed

I never usually have problems with the packing, but mostly because I'm very particular on how I put everything up on the converyor belt.

Always the really heavy stuff first, starting with the milk. All the cold/frozen stuff goes into the insulated bags. They always ask me if I want the meat put in a seperate plastic bag too.

Then the boxes, and miscellaneous stuff. Last comes the fruit and at the very end the bread. They've never messed with my order and put the fruit on top of the bread

I have a definite order about the whole thing

That must be quite a talent to do seeing that the bread and the fruit is just right at the entrance.Or do you go to the far end of the shop and work backwards.

When shopping I do the fruit first, then bread and so on. It's just that when it goes in the cart I start with everything at the end closet to me and then work towards the front of the cart (away from me). The bread gets put by itself in the spot where kids would rid, that way it doesn't get squashed. Everything has a place in my cart! More importantly it's how it's unloaded on the converyor belt. I'm a bit anal about the whole thing!

P.S. Please read the word 'cart' above as 'trolley'. I always forget to use the proper term here!

I agree... I especially hate it when I have the kids with me. I usually end up shopping at about 8pm most of the time, although lately I've had the youngest in daycare so have been able to shop during the day with no kids!

You would love shopping with my OH, not only does he follow the above format for shopping and packing, but he also colour codes each item , something like green fruit and veg graduating to yellow to orange to red etc. Dont ask me the correct order, I dont get it right. It does make shopping more entertaining
