Is it any good? I've considered it so many times but for some reason, keep dismissing it.

Re: Good book
Why We Get Fat, And What To Do About It ... and it's parent, Good Calories, Bad Calories (still working my way through this).
If even half of it is true then society deserves an apology from the powers that shape our dietary and nutritional advice. |
Re: Good book
Five Quarters of the Orange... Joanne Harris
Hated "Chocolat" Similar foodie theme... But more cohesive storyline... And expected, unexpected twists.. "A right good chicklit for the over fortyfives..." IMHO Buggerit, will have to read something "serious" now |
Re: Good book
Dont know whether to read "Mad Frank" or "Mad Frank and Friends" ..
Frankie Fraser as told to James Morton. luckily its an omnibus edition.. So will probably just start at the very beginning, whichnis a very good place to be, the alphabet starts with A B C when you learn to sing you start with Doh! Ray Me.... Or some such similar mary poppinSesque crap... |

The Book Thief
Wow. Just wow. I wish we'd had this available to read in high school instead of some of the titles we got saddled with instead. And I had no idea Zusak is an Aussie. I'd recommend it to anyone. From the reviews online, it seems to be a love it or hate it book, about 80/20 split on that. The poetic language was a bonus. I'll be thinking about some of his cleverly penned words for a long time. What else? Kate Grenville's The Secret River. Also very good. I'm picking up the second one in the series tomorrow. I originally bought it after hearing an interview with her on ABC about how she'd gotten into a scrap with historians about her books. I thought, hey, a controversy over who has the right to interpret historical events? Love it, count me in. Geraldine Brooks' Caleb's Crossing was okay. Not spectacular and I've heard not as good as March. I've also started Kim Scott's That Deadman Dance. I'll let you know what I think. Hmm...an all Aussie post...:p |
Re: Good book
I've just finished an oldie but a goodie that I've been meaning to read for a long time.
"Tuesdays With Morrie" by Mitch Albom. A lovely read. |
Re: Good book
Well Dreamy, turns out you were right. Anne Rice IS up her own arse. Just struggled the whole way thru Memnoch the Devil in the Vampire Chronicles. It's crap, all spiritual pish.
