Re: Good book
I'm reading Jasper Fforde's "First Among Sequels" which is living up to expectations and I'm really enjoying it! Although having said that every time I see the book, I get a bit peeved. When I'm buying a series of books I enjoy, I am a bit of a saddo and like to get them in the same size and cover editions, you know how they keep changing covers and that bugs me. Anyway, there was some problem I remember reading somewhere with the paperback edition for First Among Sequels which makes it something of a rarity unless you pay a premium, so I've been waiting for ages to buy it, I eventually did and it came in the wrong cover! I was going to send it back and grumble but I suppose life is too short ... so I've given in and I'm reading it but I'm going hunting for the right one when I eventually get back to UK - probably at the rate of my savings in about 20 years

Re: Good book
Any of you bookworms got anything to add for Sue's latest project?
See the announcement at the top of the forums at present, She wants to start a list of Britishexpats recommended reading books. So if you've read any good books about moving, living and working abroad, and think other people may find the book useful please send Sue a Private Message with the title of the book you are recommending and why. :) |
Re: Good book
Just finished 'Before I Go To Sleep' by SJ Watson. It's about a woman who has amnesia and has to be told who she is etc every morning when she wakes up by her husband.
I really enjoyed it (although enjoy seems the wrong word!). It was her debut novel as well. Very good. I hate finishing a good book! It's like losing a friend! |

Re: Good book
Tolkien, Lord of the Rings/Hobbit. (hence the moniker), any fantasy books; Wheel of Time series/HP/Twilight etc.
Desert Island books though are the Lymond series by Dorothy Dunnett, I read them every 10 years since I was 16 years old. I think I have been in love with Francis Crawford most of my life.............. |
Re: Good book
I've just read Kathy Reichs' "206 Bones" and then "Mortal Remains/Spider Bones" back to back. At a bit of a literary impasse now and don't know what to read. I have loads I could read but I can't decide what .... decision is pending while I ponder.

Re: Good book
I've just finished "Timeless" by Gail Carriger which is the last of the Parasol Protectorate series. I really enjoyed the series, lightweight entertainment but good fun. I'm not generally into vampire/werewolfy type books but these were so out of the ordinary that they worked for me.
Just moving on to Robin Hobb's Ship of Magic which should shut me up for a while :) Nothing beats escaping into a good book ... actually that's bullshit, plenty would be better but for now it suffices  |
Re: Good book
Still trying to read The Bolyn Inheritance.. Or legacy... Three weeks in and I cant concentrate long enough to read more than a page... Its a bloody good book that normally I'd have finished in a day or two...
Having to stick to my quilting porn... Colourful pictures of beautiful quilts in magazines... Just uncovered another boxful in the garage that I'd marked for "out" because at the time I wasnt machine quilting... So revisiting with a new perspective... |
