Just heard her on the radio saying she thinks the yanks can do anything they set their minds to, and that Australia will stand sholder to shoulder with them against their enemies. The chinese being in Obamas thoughts obviously, hence placement of a US military on Aussie shores
I wonder what this'll do for the coal and iron ore trade, has the states committed to buy what the Chinese won't? Just seems to be a dodgy path she's treading

They actually stood up to clap her as she sucked up to them.
What a complete amateur, policies rushed in and not thought through properly and wrong.
She forgets that US is ultimatley going to be another Greece due to massive debt ,bond debt and stimulus spending.
Oz pollies so backward compared to UK, and they ain't that great either.

That means nothing - it's the American way. They stand up to applaud even mediocre performances, and then there's nothing left for something exceptional.

Not to sound like a stick in the mud, but Aussies are not exactly ecstatic with this woman. In fact, she was ushered into office at the 11th hour, just before the most recent national election because the then-serving Labor Prime Minister Kevin Rudd wasn't doing well and was likely to lose if he ran again.
The Labor Party played musical chairs by unceremoniously showing Rudd the door and putting the spectacle of a prime minister chosen solely for their gender before the public as if to dare them to be so sexist as to reject her. Labor still lost its majority, but managed to hold on to enough seats to allow for a hung parliament, meaning the independents (those with no particular affinity for Labor or the Liberal Party) were handed the task of deciding who the next prime minister of Australia should be. The Green Part sided with Labor, as they, too, lean sharply to the left, which left a few, obscure MP's to have their moment in the sun and make the final decision. One particular MP milked his moment for all it was worth and indulged in a speech that seemed to go on forever before he finally blurted out the one word (the ONLY word) he really had to say: Labor.
In the end, Labor's stunt casting worked, and they were able to hold onto power for another four years, if only by the skin of their teeth. The whole episode left a bad taste in the publics mouth, and it is very unlikely that Gillard will be re-elected when the time comes. Given that the one and only time she actually debated the opposition and RAN in an election she failed to win seats in parliament but instead LOST her party's majority, Gillard is, at best, an appointed prime minister who presently enjoys the backing of enough independents to justify her presence. She was a last-minute gimmick that worked, but barely.

Gillard is widely regarded as a complete fake

Has anyone else heard Julia Gillard's speech in the US? I'm so ashamed to be a temporary resident amid her electorate. She sounded so redneck, almost mentally challenged.
'You have a friend in Orstraaaaaylia. And moites ploy strooooight....' - why do Aussie politicians briefly enjoying a foray on the world stage feel the need to use such crass simplistic language?
'americans can do anthing they landed a man on the moon speech.I mean really, for a country that so craves to be 'world class' 'world leaders' cant they rein her in a bit, gat least get somebody to read what she plans to say before she opens her mouth. Or maybe they do read it
it is the sort of stuff many aussies would love. She was on the news while I was in the UK, My Bro was laughing at the accent, and presentation then, couldnt believe that was the PM, so I think people do notice it.
First thing I said after she was elected was OMG, imagine that on the world stage, meeting Obama perhaps? you could see it coming
