That's her official birthday. It's her official birthday in the UK then as well, but we don't get a day off for it over there.

Kids of four and five years of age being expected to have daytime naps at kindy
We had the morning tea thing again at yesterday's staff meeting. 2 huge obnoxious things called bunloafs, 4 large bags of corn chips, 3 bowls of avocado dip, 2 boxes of plain crackers and some kind of square stodgy cake.......for FIVE PEOPLE!!
I sat and made notes on the work that was being discussed, the others sat and ate - then spent the afternoon asking me about the stuff they should've been making notes on!

They showed it here in WA again this year just before an ad' for lamb. I though that was amusing.

You really must write to John Howard and King Eddie and tell them they are DH's, I'm sure they'll be impressed.

Oh I'm not anti it totally, anything to get away for your desk for 10 minutes I just think it's a bit weird the way it's ingrained to eat cakes after they've only just had breakfast (not just in the workplace, but in schools, kindys, toddler groups etc). I also notice it's always the women who are designated to make or organise any kind of food.

One place I worked at had a morning and afternoon tea for one thing and another almost every day and I have heard of others (particuarly govt) being the same. It's nice as a "treat" is all I'm saying.

Like others have said though, different place, different customs (before anyone tells me to "go home if I don't like it").

I don't count John Howard, he's a politician and can only behave that way. However, Eddie must already know that If he's ever seen himself on the TV it would be glaringly obvious.

Yeah, it always seems to come down to the women - we got an invite for one in the next office for next week, and although its addressed to both men and women, it specifically states "Ladies, please bring a plate!"
(I refuse, on the grounds I'm no lady )

It would be nice as a treat at times, we used to do doughnuts or cream cakes back in the UK sometimes, but here its like constant grazing and large quantities of food, and a lot of the cakes are very dry and stodgy, which isn't my taste. I miss my real cream cakes
I also find it strange that it's frowned on to leave your desk and go talk to someone for 10 minutes in the corridor, but its OK to waste an hour or so poicking over the remains of other people's morning teas, and discussing which cake is better!

As you say, different place, different customs, but it certainly isn't a custom I find at all appealling personally.

We know that, but he loves himself far too much to believe anyone would think it of him I'm sure.

In place like K-Mart I always love when it comes over the PA "Glanda Smith to Manchester, customer assistance". And I didn't even think they had a branch there.
