maybe i've been here too long but that does not seem odd anymore....!! the only one that gets me is how they add "but" to the end of a sentence instead of using "though" e.g. I would say "It's hot though", they say "It's hot but" |

They usually fall over after 2 or 3 weak beers:p

Re: Funny Aussie ways....
I find the use of the word "UnAustralian" as an insult extremely funny. People have described me as "UnAustralian" on occassions which has me in giggles of agreement much to the bemusement of the name-caller since they obviously intended me to be hurt and offended by the suggestion!

Re: Funny Aussie ways....
I don't hear 'but' - don't know if I zone out or if people round here don't use it. People getting up at silly o'clock and going to bed at 8:30 still seems strange to me even though my husband does it. I'm definitely still in the 'bed at 11(ish) and up not before 9am if I can possibly help it' routine

Re: Funny Aussie ways....
There's a lot of grazing going on.
Snacking. Eating. Maybe it has to do with the getting up at silly o'clock and going to bed at 8:30 pm as Moneypen said? |
Re: Funny Aussie ways....
No "th" after dates...

Re: Funny Aussie ways....
The way news reports try to highlight how bad something is because it will affect the 'battlers".
It always follows with a picture of a guy with a huge beer gut and a massive bushy beard...I now cannot imagine a battler looking any other way. |

Re: Funny Aussie ways....
Fish and Chip shops shutting at 7:30pm.
All shops shutting half an hour before their advertised closing time. When they say closed at 5pm, they mean the last employee is walking out and locking the door at 5pm. If you turn up at 4:45 you get the look of death, sorry the till is all cashed up, do you have the exact change etc. Restaurants all closing on a Monday. That in itself is daft. Even dafter, restaurants closing on public holidays. God forbid anyone on holiday might want to go to a restaurant. And of course, guys in Utes with the obligitory dog tied up in the flat bed in the back. JTL |
