Shit. I jinxed him.
He's back in bay 5 (one up from ICU) he's had loads of braddys and apneas and hes back in an isolette, on a drip and nil by mouth.
Probably a reaction to the immunisations. But it means he will have no eye test for a few days (crucial at the moment) and won't be moved to Casey till hes back on full feeds and with his tummy it takes an eternity and gental persausion. This coupled with him not being allowed to be cuddled, this means less milk supply from me and just gggrrr, friggin frustration and sadness all round

BUGGER.
He was doing so well to. I know how much you were looking forward to him moving closer to home this week.
You should know by now though, nothing goes to plan with the Garretts.
Fingers crossed its just a reaction to yesterdays immunisation & he picks up quickly & gets back on track.

No, you didn't jinx him. You were being a mum and staying positive.
Hopefully it's just a reaction to the jabs ( I think I read that that could happen ) and he'll get over it quickly.
So hard for you not to be able to have a cuddle at the moment, but fingers and everything crossed that it wont be too long.
Sending you all positive thoughts.

sorry to hear that Hevs but I bet it is a reaction to the immunisation - even fully healthy babes have reactions. It won't take him long to recover.

Hi Hevs,
Really feel for you. Hope it doesn't take too long to get him back on his feet.
Take care

Sorry to hear about the reaction to the immunisations, Hevs. Lots of positive thoughts that he'll be back on track really, really soon and that your saddness and frustrations are helped with more cuddles. I hope you're able to get Flynn moved to Casey soon, too.
You have some beautiful pics of him.

Dense question, probably, but why does he have to have immunisations straight away?
When Seb had meningitis at 3 weeks old, the doc there said to hold off on any immunisation until he was strong enough to handle them. I guess they do things differently here, but if they're having an adverse affect on him, can't they hold off on them. It's not like he hasn't got an immune system if he's been having breast milk.
My other daughter had such a bad reaction to the whooping cough that she was hospitalised so we didn't give her the rest until she was 5!
Sure there's a very good reason for it though - what do I know?

? I hope that he picks up soon poor thing, I am sure that he will though they wouldn't have done the jabs unless they were sure that he would pick up again quickly afterwards. It must be so hard to go backwards after so many moves in the right direction but this will just be a temporary blip as he is a real fighter. Hugs to you all

I pom, its not a dense question cos i asked the same
Basically he has NO reserves and breast feeding is not an automatic immunity. If he got any of the infections that the immunisations are for (flu, polio, diptheria, whooping cough or pneumococcal disease) it could very easily kill him.
As it is he is about to have swabs for Haemophilus influenza type B (flu!) as there has been a bug doing the rounds for a few weeks and some babies in the ajoining bay have tested postive. Time for prayers/ vibes etc people
On the upside he will be returning to hospital overnight for his 8 week jabs, if we've bloody well left by then that is

Despite the name, HiB is not the same bug as the *virus* that causes the flu; it is a bacterium instead. However, it is one of the leading causes of bacterial (not viral) meningitis in children. The jab has been very effective in reducing bacterial meningitis in young children.
However, people who have "more than a mild illness" are advised to not be vaccinated; and it should not be given to infants younger than six weeks (and I don't know if that means 46 weeks gestational age in Flynn's case, or if his immune system is currently that of a six-week-old term baby with respect to this vaccine).
http://doh.whiteloop.com/basics/vaccine.php
HiB causing serious disease in a healthy but unvaccinated population is relatively rare.
I'm sure they will go over this with you but wanted to clear up the HiB vs flu issue.
So sorry to hear about the setbacks; and have heart, my dear.

Amy.
nb not a doctor or a nurse, but my daughter was one of the first ever receive the HiB vaccine so I studied it very carefully.
