Possibly interesting  that yorkshire pud began life as a substitute for meat, or at least to stretch it further. Now its an extra. :)

My Nan was sent "into service" as a cook in a posh house [lord of the manor type stuff] She used to do a special roast Beef with the Yorkshire rolled around the outside of the Beef so that when you sliced the beef you got a slice of the batter as well, very nice;) Never seen that done anywhere else, she was from the Guisborough area on the edge of the North York Moors.
We always had ours with gravy before the main when we were at her house for Sunday lunch though. I don't remember them as being big hollow things like we make now I remember them more like flat sliced pancakes:confused:
We had leftovers with treacle.

My Nan was also in service at Arundel Castle (Duke of Norfolk)...now SHE could cook! But, she was Welsh. Oh well, can't have it all. :D

I remember the number of times I ever ate steak as a kid. Didn't eat it regularly until we moved over here, apart from when it was at give away prices when the mad cow thing peaked.
We always had either Beef or Chicken at my mums Sunday lunches. Where as at Deb's mums we always had two meats Beef & Pork or Lamb & Chicken. Flash bastards my inlaws;)

I have to admit I prefer my roast dinners in OZ as I adore corned silverside but I roast it like we would do a joint in the UK as opposed to boiling it. YUM YUM

My ex has just returned from a visit to Scotland and said he loved the food tried everything he was missing but could not wait to get back on a plane to Perth.

He hated being back home and told me he informed the family that he would never be back again lol.

I would kill for a Scottish Indian lamb tikka masala

He only ended up staying 6 days in Scotland:eek:
