::rubbing tum after fantabulous home cooked roast beef and all the trimmings last night::

I was concerned that my yorkshire puds wouldn't rise but they were so huge Bernie could have lived in one.

I wouldn't be surprised!

One thing I have never understood about BE; the obsession with Bisto chemical 'gravy'.

I use it as a replacement for creosote when I'm painting my fence.

You know what, sometimes I wonder why some of us bother.
It was a fun thread. Most fantastic roast dinner I've had in ages cos I can't cook to save my life as my ex will tell you. there was no HP sauce on it, I wouldn't do that to a roast. Yes I did pile the mint sauce on cos I like it. I don't give a shite if you lot think it was only fit for chavs or peasants, I enjoyed it, freshly cooked veg and all, and yes, I watched it cooked in front of me.

Bit heavy on the mint sauce for me but looks damn tasty.

Had swordfish with a potato bake for tea... not much swordfish knocking about in the UK. :)

Well good for you mate! But the good news is that if you can't cook yourself - then someone will do it for you here.

Many pubs will do a carvery of a weeknight and on Sundays - and they look just as well cooked as the one on display there. It's also called a baked dinner when done at home here, rather than a roast dinner.

I reckon the best ones are those done at home anyhow - I'd rather have a Parmy in a pub here:)

Yum I think the condiments are the best bit of any roast!! In order of preference mint sauce, horseradish, apple sauce, cranberry and mustard and would happily have them all on one plate. I find mint sauce very troublesome in the teeth department though.....best not to smile for a while!

So you put on a picture up and you want to decide what comments you receive? Public forum, everyones entitled to their own opinion.

You think your roast dinner is something we're all missing out on, we're entitled to think it's not.

Deal with it.

Exactly! So your sense of humour about showing a pub roast and 'joking' that people are missing something by not sharing it obviously isn't funny to the majority of people. Why you'd get your knickers in a twist about people having a joke at your expense is beyond me. Oh no hang on, it's not supposed to work that way is it?

It's not funny precisely because you can get better examples in other countries apart from the UK - and we know how homesick old Polly gets..but it's possible to get a 'fix' a lot closer to home.. (residential).

Oh FFS I didn't cook the effing thing, I was just eating it and enjoying it cos I like roast lamb and it was a lovely meal. I didn't notice either Bernie or I saying that it was impossible to get a roast dinner in Australia or in any other country on the planet. It was just a silly fun Sunday afternoon thread.

And Badge - I'm not homesick any longer cos I no longer have a "home".

We know you didn't cook the thing - we heard you! If you had cooked it - you would have got loads of positive response probably. It is precisely because someone cooked something which can be cooked here to a higher standard in some cases and it was said that we were missing it that you got the response you did. We took it to mean this because we know that you really miss that sort of thing not because, regrettably this is yet another Aus vs UK post(!) Homesick - wrong choice of words probably.

The fact of the matter is that there is no need to miss having a roast dinner in Australia. If you do, then you really are a 'pleb' (not you personally!)

And if you have one in London, all you have to say is :

"Great meal in London - cheers". If you get misunderstood - there is a reason. You always criticise food so it's a wonder that you like this one in any case. You choose to eat them there, but not here, when they are not demonstratively any worse here. So that's why you get the response you get.

BadgeIsBack Nov 7th 2010 11:21 pm

Re: Dinner's on me.

And...now go back and have another one whilst you still have the time...how many more can you fit in, in those extra days?

because if that makes you happy - then who can complain...
