Re: The Cricket Thread
I loved the fact that after the series win over India we were (predictably) being told that the Aussies would soon regain their rightful place at the top of the rankings This team is NOT the team that were No 1.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Strange decision to give the captaincy to Ponting albeit on a temp basis until Clarke is back. Totally undermined Warner as VC.
I am a big fan of Brett Lee but surely his days at international cricket are over, and whats the point sticking with him when you know an injury is just around the corner.
All is not rosey in the garden of Australian cricket and if some thought that after the whitewash of a dire Indian test team this summer was the start of a new dominant era for Australian cricket they are very wrong. Even if you analyse the series against India it is clear to see the batting is still very fragile with most of the runs coming from Ponting(dead cat bounce) Clarke and Hussey. 2 of those 3 are at the very end of there careers and will be gone by the end of next year.

Agree on Ponting as Captain (and maybe batsman) and Lee, they have a wealth of promising fast bowlers in the wings. This is the big positive to come from this summer from an Aussie point of view, the continuation of finding quicks just when they need them. Batting is an issue though.
The next Ashes under English conditions and ball moving a mile? No problems retaining them.
Away against Sri Lanka?

Excellent result and great to see Pietersen return to form.

I wonder how long England will cling onto the #1 ranking? Hasn't even been a year yet, and already they're on the brink. The loudly-predicted new era of English dominance has failed to materialise.

5 for 114 with 175 runs to find from 19 overs. India will need to dig deep for this one.

Seeing as we are on the subject of non-cricket - one day and T20, SA have absolutely smashed NZ in the 2nd T20. Richard Levi scored 117 and 13 6's.

Back home in Australia, Dhoni's showing more guts than a badly cooked curry. Gotta hand it to the guy, he'll go down fighting.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Test cricket is good at the moment, you have 3 very good teams England, Pakistan and S.Africa and then a second tier Sri Lanka, Australia, India, New Zealand. The last thing Test Cricket needs right now is one dominant team for the next 10 years.
