Fortunately(?) yes.

It only made matters worse the next day when I asked who had one with a red end.

I was, of course, doing an Overhead projector presentation on 'rules of the road' and needed a red pen.

I saw a young female Corporal take a map-reading lesson for new recruits and after showing the compass and explaining MAGGRID as in - 'Mag to Grid - Get Rid' she asked all the mostly male occupants of the room to check their compasses. "Have you all got a red-end?"
