Re: Coronavirus - how's everyone doing?
The Western Australia Department of Health has tonight declared the state's South West Region "virus free." There have been no new cases in 14 days, and the 9 people in that region who contracted it, have all recovered.
The South West is currently the only region in Western Australia to have no active cases.
The South West is the second-most populous region in the state, after the Peel Region - which for the purposes of regional lockdown, Peel has been amalgamated with the Perth Metropolitan Area.
A terrific result and let's hope it spreads to other regions.
Premier Mark McGowan says restrictions will be reviewed on 1 May, however in the regions there is still significant support for lockdown and the closure of state borders.

NSW 11 new cases today on testing of 3000. 5 of which were in the nursing home. 14 yesterday on 1300 tests. This is a good result. Taking away the nursing home cluster which is contained it looks like yesterday was 4 on 1300 tests and today 6 on 3000 tests. They have capacity for 4000 tests and they are desperately trying to get all tests consumed to weed out the odd case and get that number to 0 new cases.
Things are looking positive.
National cabinet meeting today to start mapping out an exit plan.

On the contrary, there's been a tonne of empathy toward my best mate. Not something I care to discuss with you.
You know the funny thing with you is you always like to attack the person rather than the topic. Perhaps that should be a BE rule if it's not already. Then you wouldn't find yourself constantly in this personal stuff.

there's been no empathy from you in here, I wonder if your mate knows you consider his dad collateral damage, pretty sure he'd smack you in the mouth if he read the tripe you post in here. That's probably why it gets personal with you, because you're so impersonal on subjects regarding people. I'd say it's a huge flaw in your character.

It looks like NSW are aiming to start face to face teaching in week 3 of term 2. It looks like Victoria are aiming for all of term 2 to be remote.
It looks like NSW might be implementing some practices to maintain a level of social distancing. It seems they believe adults are the problem, both as transmitters and those who have the worst symptoms, and they are saying that they believe that the children being either asymptomatic or their inability to catch the disease are not transmitters.
It looks like they might implement measures to keep teachers, staff and parents away from each other. No group meetings, staggered drop off and pick up times to keep large groups of parents away, etc etc. Seems like some sensible early ideas with more plans to be put in place.

From Angus: “Aus could only russle up 25 new cases in the last 24 hours. Apparently in South Australia you can basically ask for a test with your Big Mac and Fries. And remember when the Italian number of cases looked like a lot?”

Western Australia only did 200 tests on Tuesday. That's despite making it so that basically anyone who wants a test can get one, just rock up to a COVID Clinic or your local hospital - and the message is being carried by local media, basically begging people to go get a test. I hope this is because symptomatic cases really are on the big swing down, and not because people are ignoring symptoms.

Excellent news. Looking at your chart I really do hope North America and Europe are finally reaching the point where the curve is flattening. The US is getting all the attention for having the most cases but what is frightening is there is actually a lot more in the European Union as a whole and about double the deaths there.

The UK numbers don't include the nursing home figures. In fact according to the UK Government's own website, the cases included here are only those who have died in hospital after a positive Covid 19 test. Scary to think how many more there could be:

Steve and Beoz please stop. You're both boring the pants off everyone, you're not making any difference to what the other one thinks and you're both stuffing up yet another thread. Keep personal remarks out of your posts please.

Considering that NZ is in stage 4 lock down and that their population is less than a fifth of ours, they are not doing much better than us - 47 deaths (pro rata) to our 63 - not much in it in reality. Just goes to show that our government's decision not to go harder has been the right one and that NZ's decision to go to stage 4 and in the process to torch their economy was the wrong way to go. Their PM really is hopeless

NSW is going to give the good run of national new cases a real kicking today on the back of a nursing home outbreak and some really extensive testing - 5000 people up from 3000 - 29 people down in the last 24 hours.. It looks like most of it is contained and accounted for. Lets hope this extensive testing can continue over the next few days to really weed out those slipping through the cracks.

Today's table From Angus: 9,000 tests in Australia for 22 new cases. Singapore hits 19.68% growth in one day.
Singapore's curve is going up and a chart comparing their daily growth with ours since 02/04/2020. Shows how it can flare up again.
It doesn’t look as if the Swedish experiment is working so well when compared with others in the region. Source European CDC
Perhaps their economy may not suffer so much? The rhetoric here seems to be we take a massive hit economically whatever we do.
Whenever I feel smug about Australia's figures I remember the massive complex they are building post haste at our local Public Hospital for Covid 19 cases.

Angus Is a friend of a friend and produces the table early each morning and posts them on facebook
He uses:
Johns Hopkins dashboard for cases and deaths. https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html
ourworldindata.org for detailed list of testing figures.
All the other fields are calculations based on those three figures and population. He uses the countries his friends have asked for but eliminates others as it would become impossible to read on a phone
