Also, I'm sure that once you have had time to reflect a bit you will be able to realise that an airline has a responsibility to an entire planeful of passengers... And that has to be their priority... And are not "scumbags"
My friend stepped in and did a lot to confort her and make sure she was OK. Of course passenger safety is paramount there is no disputing that. My mothers problem was that she was confused and that probably worried them as she couldn't communicate where she was or where she was going. The reason Cathay are "scumbags" and remain so is not about that it's about not doing anything to help resolve the situation we wasted two days of useless phone calls where they couldnt tell anyone what was happening and contradicted themselves and only looked out for themselves. Anytime someone offered to help resolve the issue they put extortionate prices on the deal. My fieinds tentatively booked a flight with her back to Perth at $7000 HKD when they went to board the next day they said the booking hadn't gone through right and it would now cost $27000 HKD to accompany her. They continuously threatened if we didnt get on the flight they would just call Canadian consulate and dump it in their hands. Anyway I booked a return for myself online without their help after all this stress for $2500 met her and my friend and once she had some sleep she was absolutely fine. Every time there was anything to do on Cathays part they tried to profit from it. My Aussie visa had expired so they kindly said at the airport going out all I need to do is check in early and get the ticket agent to call and they would give clearance then they would make me fill out a form on returning to Perth airport. Cathay were angling to charge me $400 to get my visa sorted out on checkin. I explained to them that if they called the Aussies would sort it out for them no charge. I had a a pleasant experience dealing with all the Cathay ground workers up in HK its not their fault its Cathays policies and culture (thats why the 'scumbag' label stays they try to profit from travelers misery and most of the time they cause it) Contrast that with Ausssie immigration who have just as much stress and security concerns. They were nothing but pleasant courteous and professional |

What does 'tentatively' booked mean?
I'm guessing your mother is booked to travel back to Toronto later on CX? What's the position with that? Will CX be happy to take her for the return? |

However if your Aussie visa has actually expired then you now have a bigger problem to solve - what visa were you on? Or is it just a question of terminology and it was just that you didn't have a current RRV - for your sake I hope its that :) |
Re: Cathay Pacific are absolute Scumbags
If you genuinely feel they have been scumbags and that your mum really didn't pose any security threat then you should take this to the media. They love to dump on airlines at the moment so they could well pick this up. If they do then you could pretty much guarantee Cathay will be quick to offer some compensation

Re: Cathay Pacific are absolute Scumbags
Before you go to the media, perhaps think about how sensible it is putting and elderly person, prone to confusion and unable to communicate on a long haul flight?

Toronto to Hong Kong being one of the longest there is...nearly 16 hours I think.
I don't have a lot of glowing things to say about CX either. My mother is in a wheelchair and missing a hip (botched hip replacement surgery). They saw at check in that she was not able to walk more than a short distance but booked her into a seat at the back of the plane. She had to leave her chair at the door of the plane (obviously, as it won't fit down the aisle) but then drag herself down some twenty five rows. |

It would be more than that. My mother just flew Cathay from Vancouver to Hong Kong and it was over 13 hours for that leg. Vancouver to Toronto would probably add another 5 hours to that. Whoa. I thought my mother's flight was long...

Glad you got her here safely in the end.

I've got a 100. Whats a RRV? They've put me on a Temp visa I have 30 days to renew the 100
I'm not quite sure what they will have done, I suggest you go into a DIAC office with your passport and whatever paperwork they gave you (if any) and ask them what to do to sort it out. You can't "renew" your PR just like that, and if they have given you a temp visa then they may have cancelled your PR  However it could have been worse, they could have refused to allow you back in. http://www.immi.gov.au/migrants/resi...-documents.htm |

RRV is a Returning Residents Visa. Although your PR is permanent if you remain onshore, after 5 years the re-entry facility on it runs out, and you either need to get citizenship (and an Aus passport) or a RRV in order to leave Aus and then return here again.

Sounds like they have given him a 30 day RRV. Most likely will need to renew the RRV part of his subclass 100 visa for the full 5 years - or until citizenship is applied for

Sounds probable :) I couldn't imagine they'd cancel the PR. Sounds like a speedy trip to DIAC is called for!
