We need you to recommend a good Aussie brand of slop - sun block.

I don't use it. Wear long sleeved cotton shirt, light, all leather shoes and a hat. Cotton is cool in the heat. God knows how ppl manage in Nylon.

I'm sure all the regular 30+ will be okay.

Just to add, I didn't go up King's Canyon in light shoes. Had on my Zamberlan boots, but it was June and not all that hot.

Watch out for reflected light, stay in the shade when you can.

When i go back to Oz I always stock up on Sunsense sunscreen. It's really great.

I slip, slop, slap whenever I got out even living here in Italy. Not to toot by own horn too much but I look quite a lot younger than the locals my age who spend every summer frying themselves on the beach. They don't seem to have heard of skin cancer here. Even my dermatologist advised me to 'suntan in moderation'. (and I'm very fair with freckles)

It gives shade, so like standing in a shady spot. Important to remember any shady spot only reduces the sun not stops it.

However you can very cheaply buy UV umbrellas, aldi had one recently for $10, the dime store silver brolly in my car is lined with dark navy fabric and gives a massive amount of shade compared to any hat.

And were the side windows up?

Yep, I second Sun Sense - we buy all Ego skin care and sun products for the family - my eldest is allergic to anything else.

Yes they were, and my arm was red hot and extremely uncomfortable - I always drive with my windows up.

Your arm was hot due to the infrared not being filtered out by the glass, but was it sunburnt by the UVs, like you might get if you went on a sunbed, which isn't a hot experience?

Has anyone seen the driving sleeve things in any of the shops? I know the cancer council do them but only by mail order and I'm not paying the amount they're charging in postage lol

Have also been burnt from sitting in the office, yes its inside but with windows open the sun comes right through and most people dont even think of that.

I do not like the intensity of the sun here, getting skin damage even in the shade etc. Girl who does my hair, an aussie but russian heritage, was saying she got burnt by being in the car for 10 mins, agree sun here just seems to get stronger and stronger.

I dont want that leather skin people have, I dont want the brown blotches either. When I worked in the Docs, the older aussies would come in and just have bits hacked off left right and centre, worst cases were the old guys who had holes cut out the top of their heads, one of the docs used to joke we could use their heads as dip bowls

Sun strength here is bloody evil.
I am with you all the way on that. Wife won't go outdoors at all between 10-2 unless it's overcast.

Yes it can be confusing, right now the uv index in Brisbane is 7, yet it still feels as hot on your skin as did at 11:35 this morning when the UV index was an insane 13!
