I am very impressed by http://www.catamount.com/blog/catego...tmoney-iphone/ if you have an iphone. Takes time and effort but can be a real eye opener about where your cash is going. (looks like they do one for android phones too)

Chop the veges & meat the night before and then just put all in slow cooker in morning.
Did this this morning. Piece of rump (reduced at supermarket), roughly chopped celery, onion & carrots, tin of toms, slug of cheap red vino, some dried herbs. Got home this afternoon, used the stick blender and one third of it served 6 of us with pappardelle. Other two portions in freezer for other times.
Sunday did similar thing with more beef and a couple of packets of rendang sauce. V easy.

How many of there are you? you have to make sure slow cookers have plenty of liquid in them... There are 7 of us so we brought the biggest available... Bearing in mind you can always freeze leftovers.... Do you need a massive one? or are you going to regret buying one that's too small?
#95
I agree with Eddie, it depends on how many you have to feed. I have a Morphy Richards 6.5l one which cost me about $100 in the sale. It is big enough to get a large piece of meat or chicken in and as Eddie says I freeze leftovers if there are any.

Well there's only 4 of us but making lots then freezing sounds great. They have the Morphy Richards 6.5L at $148. Be good to get 4 lamb shanks in one pot - doable?

We're four healthy eaters and mine is a 5.5ltr Sunbeam. Plenty big enough for four shanks, a decent sized chicken etc and have made a Stroganoff for about 10 with no problem.

If you get one too big you are stuck if you want to do smaller amounts as you do need to have 'stuff' a fair way up the sides for it to cook properly.

I bought a Breville Slow/Fast Pressure cooker. It can be a slow cooker or pressure cooker depending on how much time you have. Choice magazine named it small appliance of the year. http://www.breville.com.au/cooking/t...ow-cooker.html

Recipes? Stick a load of BIG veggies.. Potatoes, carrots, parsnips whatever... In the bottom... Put meat on top.... Add stock... Herbs, garlic onion... Whatever you want.....
Experiment, explore, be creative, break free!!!!

I love it. We go to Spud Shed on weekends sometimes and buy a bunch of veggies from the sale bins, throw it all in with some stock and in 15 minutes have soup. What I love is that no matter how cheap the cut of meat you throw in there it comes out tender. Same with the slow cooker, too (I have one of those as well. I'm a bit of a small appliance junkie)

You can also saute and steam with it.
