Kevin, I come from just down the road from you in Woodbridge... I know of a couple of farmers in the area who will candidly tell you that they do not know how they could have continued with their businesses if it wasn't for the East Europeans that have come over and work on their land. It wasn't a case of paying more money, it was a case of no one from the UK would do the job. In my own field back in Blighty we could not get truck drivers for our lorries... Even at over £600 pw... Plenty of my contemporaries were in the same situation and employed many Polish drivers and were very very happy with the result; and they were paid the same as the British drivers. I used to feel exactly the same as you and certainly consider myself to be well to the right of the political spectrum. I don't doubt your experiences with Thetford (an absolute dump if you ask me) but not everything is like that. Many people lump the economic migrants in with the asylum seekers which is a whole new ball game. Don't forget the East Europeans have to work, and contribute to our system, for at least a year (might be 2 I can't remember) before they have any rights as far as financial assistance goes. Those from outside the EU have to get their ILR which can take 5 years... It's the same here; we're on a 164 business visa which means we have to prove our worth over a couple of years before we're entitled to the same benefits as Aussies... and I agree with that...
I guess what I'm saying is that the vast majority of migrants into the UK are decent, law abiding citizens who want nothing more than a chance at a better life for themselves and their own... Don't you think you could look a little more generously at them instead of condemning entire nations...? Just as you hope your new Australian neighbours will give you a 'fair go' with your new life and business on the Sunshine Coast...?

The OP rhetoric needs a degree of perspective. My father witnessed first hand the Warsaw uprising where for two months in 1944 an estimated 15,000 underground fighters of the Polish Home Army died and anywhere between 120,000 and 200,000 civilians were killed. Barely a brick was left standing when the Nazis razed the city.
To comprehend the numbers killed, imagine a death toll equivalent to the 9/11 attacks - which killed almost 3000 people - every day for 63 days.
So, as the OP rants from his safe haven Sunshine Coast location, perhaps he may like to think of those Eastern Europeans enjoying good old British hospitality because as a proud son of a Polish veteran [who contributed to the UK economy for 40 years]... I am very grateful that they have one less bigot to confront.

A balanced post....with an essence of diplomacy and humility mixed in for good measure.

There you go....plan started already! Ahhh...but who do you stop letting in? How do you know who's the trouble maker? They won't be wearing a suicide belt or carrying an A.K45 through customs for the security men to recognise them.

What crap you talk - you obviously love to see your local area over run by foreign speaking immigrants ruining the economy and making it impossible for local people to find work because they will work for peanuts
Why are you living in Queensland, maybe you should bugger off and live in Sydney where there are plenty of problems caused by muslims, lebs etc

Define "immigrant" ya tosser. In case it hadn't occurred to you, we are one. Are we not immigrants because we speak the same language or have the same colour of skin as Aussies. Hold on!!! Were Aboriginies not native Australians. I dont think they would have the same opinion as you as to whether you were a positive for their race. It was they British immigrants who came to a foreign land, butchered anything that stood still and forced the British way of life on them. God, sometimes I despair with the British education system when it produces neanderthals like yourself. The problems you refer to are societies problems and when everything is not coming up smelling of roses, then lets look for a scapegoat. You have this arrogance that you are something special and this world should adhere to your way of living and thinking. Minority groups have it hard enough without this type of opinion fanning the flames of racism. No I dont read the Guardian but I am not also a right wing fascist who sees people by their skin colour and inability to speak good English. Think before you speak.:curse:

Tell that to the communities ruined by the influx of different ethnic groups that often fight among themselves thinking they are still in their country of origin. Take a small town in the UK (Thetford) - there is an estate there that has groups of immigrants from opposing factions (maybe Croats, I'm not sure), before we came out here there was a massive street brawl involving these groups as well as innocent bystanders. The area is so dangerous that the blokes collecting the dustbins had to have a police escort every time they went, this still may be the case
As to me bagging the muslims - have you ever lived in central London? they have taking over and every 2nd person seems to be muslim.
I think you are the confused one, there's a difference between being racist (against other races) and being proud of your country. If you like being over run by eastern europeans / muslims then good luck to you. I didn't so I moved to Australia where those problems aren't so widespread.
I have no problem with immigrants if they integrate into society (like we have done here), I do have a problem when they don't for example some schools in London having Punjabi as the 1st language and only 10% of students being english
Do you really like this?

I used to live in Central London and had a lot of fun working in Lambeth where over 150 languages are spoken.
I'm also half Polish so I don't really mind that a lot of Poles are being welcomed into Britain again, I think they have a lot to contribute as regards work ethics, community values etc. However I am British and proud of my country and nationality too.
Am also a waste management professional and should point out that I think in Thetford there was a problem with the introduction of alternate weekly collection and that was why the refuse and recycling crews needed a police escort until things had calmed down.
I'd rather live in a community of people of mixed ethnicity than live with very closed minded people like yourself! Luckily we live in a democracy and you and I are both entitled to our different opinions.
IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH PEOPLE BEING IMMIGRANTS, THEN WHY ARE YOU ONE YOURSELF??!!
Would you be happy with others speaking about you in the way you have spoken about them?
I do hope you enjoy living in Australia and it brings you the isolation from other races you crave.

(sorry couldn't resist)
