Britain today???

Ok, so im sat here just watchin the box, having a few beers.......
I happen to glance out of the window, to see 2 lads, stripping the lead off the roof of the house across the road! ...... ive noticed for days that they have been ever so slowly inching the lead up........ ive spoken to them about it too, coz i sort of know them. know of them.
It may sound stupid, but their really not bad lads, they are just looking for money to buy weed.... they r about 15 and everytime i see them they r stoned.
I tried to talk them out of doing it, but i guess their need is stronger than reason.
I feel sad for our kids, that they dont have the parents to watch over them, and i dont think i'd be doing them any favours by getting them nicked.....
I told them that it could be me next, im sad that they dont see the bigger picture, and that even now they dont fel that they could make a better life for themselves.
Just wanted to share, not sure if its a representation of the uk or the world in general?
Given that im hoping to move to aus, i suppose that im hoping that things are better there?

I could send you the local crime report page from my local paper here in Brisbane....loads of house break in's, property theft, assaults etc etc

My favourite quote from these forums is:

Just as crime varies around the UK, so crime varies around Australia. If you choose inner-city life in any country then you have to be prepared to deal with all the crime that that entails.

I could send you the local crime report page from my local paper here in Shoalhaven Heads, but I can summarise it by saying that three outboard motors were nicked from one of the caravan parks. Same report said that the motors were returned after somebody had a 'word' with somebody else.

Just choose wisely when you're picking somewhere to live ... and rent until you're sure it's right for you. :)

Well I was just looking at the news in the town I used to live in the UK (Bury St Edmunds). Last week there was 1 murder and 2 stabbings, this isn't out of the normal because I looked a couple of weeks ago and there was a murder that week as well. Now Bury St Edmunds isn't some inner city slum, it's a nice conservative suffolk small town with weekly markets, large proportion of old people and plenty of work.
I know it's not perfect here but the Sunshine Coast is a far bigger area than Bury St Edmunds and the violent crime is far less. I know it may be a little dangerous to go to Mooloolaba on a Friday night but I've never had any problems and it seems very quiet to me.

As far as I'm concerned the UK is on a downward spiral and I never plan on going back apart from a short holiday in a few years

Nowheres perfect,Britains on decline like many other countries.
If you cut back the Police presence then crime goes up,it doesent take a genius to see that.
Also cutbacks on NHS has seen a rise of superbugs in hospitals as cleaning wards is not a priority, due to crap funding.

So you don't think it's anything to do with the massive amounts of immigrants flooding in to the UK after a free ride?
The UK is turning in to a nation of bitter and twisted people, just look at the stuff going on in London just now. I bet you anything you like it's down to immigrants or british born muslims.
I wonder why these 'fanatics' don't just bugger off back to where they come from - if they don't like how western countries run then why do they live there (maybe because they are dole bludging lazy koran carrying bastards?)

Actually migration is having a positive economic effect on the country as a whole...

"Migrant workers have boosted the UK economy, with their influx not having a negative effect on employment or wage levels, the TUC has argued.

Foreign workers made a positive net economic contribution, it said, with their share of tax paid exceeding the cost of supplying public services."

Am sure migrant workers are having a positive effect, but what about all the migrants who aren't working?

Please don't think that OZ is exempt from these type of things and people.
It bothers me alot when i read posts that slag UK off in everyway possible , then say "can't wait to get to OZ cause it's better".
There is a massive problem with teenagers on drugs in OZ too, especially where i am in WA. Smoking draw is so common it is normal now:ohmy:
Now this worries me!! i have teenagers (who have confessed to doing it since we got to OZ)

What else would you expect the BBC to say?

But in all fairness, the population of bury st.edmunds is alot higher & denser than the sunshine coast. The sc may be bigger, but ite emptier, no comparison. Course mooloolaba seems quiet, theres hardly anyone there :)
