My point is that it must be a managed strategy, not an ad hoc "let's just see how fast we can grow the population" experiment. Population growth is a long term option, but one which must be carefully maintained.
Poorly worded on my part. Obviously we will keep expanding; my point is that we musn't allow that expansion to become explosive or random.
Same way we're doing it now. Encourage higher birth dates (eg. baby bonus) and the immigration of skilled workers (eg. points-based immigration system). I reckon paid parental leave would be another great incentive.
Yep, very true.
I totally agree. There will come a time when we don't need so many people, which is when we can tighten immigration controls further and discourage population growth.

The wages are market rate because they have people doing the work, stuff like cleaning, vegetable picking etc. Problem is most of them are illegal immigrants who can't claim the dole.

Why shouldn't I, Toolboy?
But to answer your question:
My wife is British
My son was born there and therefore is British too
I lived there for nearly 10 years
I have family and friends there
My brother is in the British Army and is in the Sangin Valley as I write
I am a big fan of what Britain has done in the world
I want Britain and the British people to be okay
Will that do? There's more if not.

. Or do you just save it for internet forms where you're stirring the pot?As this is an expat site, would say a lot of the people on here have no right to vote anyone into office in the UK.

That's somewhat my point... cheap people allow shit bosses to get away with shit wages. If the farmers in the UK want to make a living then they need to either mechanize or grow crops that don't rely on paying people shit money.... not use the excuse that we need to import the worlds poor to keep doing crap jobs.

Most people on here, including me, are Bitiish citizens and have a right to vote in the UK.

It's not about me. It's about the benefit scroungers that choose not to work because they get more on the dole, or benefits, or entitlements or whatever you wish to call them. What's the point in working if you can get more on the dole?

Whoever wins the election is going to have to slash benefits so that people are better off working, even if it means picking carrots on the fens or cleaning offices. There will be a rude awakening for a whole segment of the population IMO.

The 'official' UK jobless is about 2.5million. The number of inactive people of working age is over 8million.
What do you suggest they should all start doing?. Does the UK actually have eight million jobs just lying around waiting to be filled?.
Does it really need to be STILL importing people given those numbers?

I doubt there is any 'could' about it. I'm always staggered that people who are in the country, any country, illegally are allowed to challenge their deportation in court. Why are they not just chucked out ASAP?.

Exactly, just like here in Australia, straight to the airport.
