I wrote this in a thread in MBTTUK, it's just as apt here, especially today. I guess I was a 'Muskateer' in times past, but now I get more pleasure from contributing in MBTTUK or in the Oz forum, than I do arguing. Probably just got too much time on my hands really:lol:
I've spent some considerable time working on getting back to the UK (twice!). It's nice and I like it. Mrs TB would rather be in Oz. We had a good ole chat last night and she said if the stress is too much for me, then she'll stay here. But now my body is rebelling against all the years of triathlon and my back is craptacular at the moment,once it's fixed I've come to realise I really don't care anymore where we live. I've got good contacts and friends over there (we both have), good contacts here. Life can work in both countries for us. Maybe it's the meds talking, but I really am in a good place with whatever we decide. Loads of things wrong/right with Oz, loads of things wrong/right with the UK. I've decided to ditch the 'there or here' comparos and just think, ' if we're happy then good' One thing I've noticed in the last few weeks since I've been thinking this way is that I've contributed to the Oz forum a bit more as I don't feel the need to rail against one country or the other now, just answer honestly. For the first time in years I feel in a good place emotionally in regards to where we are living/might live. I feel completely neutral about it now. Now I know that Mrs TB will stay if it's best for us, then I don't care if we go back. Weird huh:huh: |

Well folks, the great day has dawned. There is a soft, balmy breeze blowing full of promise, full of the gentle sounds of our unique friendly wildlife and bearing the occasional, fragrant scent of sizzling snags (sorry, a bit early for that). Like a true patriot I was up before dawn with my cans of green spray-on grass paint. The family are up now and I've got them singing along to this classic ballad which showcases the country's cultural excellence, whilst portraying typical scenes of everyday life in this magnificent brown (er, I mean green) land. In fact, I think this should be the new national anthem - at least some of my fellow citizens might even manage to learn the lyrics.

Yes I read your post 'over there' and totally agreed with it, sometimes I think we are just hit by a sudden realisation that you know exactly where you should be and it has nothing to do with petty crap like who has the best banks or which country is best served to ride out a global crisis, it's irrelevant because it is where your heart is. :thumbup:

Never understood the idea of a country being 'overrated' or 'underrated'. It is what it is. Who's rated it in the first place and why do some people use some random benchmark to make their own decisions?
If someone rates a place only they can decide at some later point if they rated it too high or too low. You live where you want to live or where you have to live for whatever reason. It's irrelevant what other people think of the area. Someone reiterating your views on a place doesn't make that view fact for everyone, it just means you are not completely alone in your perception. |

It is no different to a restaurant or a movie, we all rate something individually. To me personally I would say that in many ways Australia is overrated as things many put a lot of importance in are of no importance to me ie beaches, BBQ and the weather. To other those things are important so it isn't overrated.
