I did go to the Blue mountains once but it was not particularly memorable....a bit like a poor imitation of the Peak district. |

tbh, I'd rather 'do it alone' than be surrounded by dullards. Always have. It is possible to be selective you know? |

That would be because the Peak district has mountains, whereas the Blue Mountains is a dissected plateau. If you're going to compare two places on the opposite side of the world and attempt to find similarities, then at least attempt to educate yourself on some sort of geological aspect of where you are.

Try the Victorian Alps - peaks almost twice the height of Snowdon! |

So for example this guide to the peak district makes clear: Despite its name, the Peak District’s 1438 square kilometres contains no mountains... So back on topic, it’s not just Australians that are dull . |

I see your “dissected plateau†and raise you the point that the peak district contains no mountains under many definitions ;).
I've not looked up the definition but it's probably a moorland plateau. . http://ultimatejamesbond.files.wordp...0/blofeld1.jpg |

Something I have noticed about Australia that is a peeve - not fully proven. A lot of hil walking etc - the approach, the ascent, even along the flat is done in thick scrub and bush - you can see eff all often all day. I like Victoria's Bogon High Plains (careful how you spell it) - you can train a compass on a point in the distance and feel like you are navigating! |

Thought someone would be along to say something along those lines - the UK is fairly low-lying - I got bored with the Peak Distruct years ago... I'd spell it Bogong unless you're talking about the place where they leave their cars on bricks in front of their mountain shack.
