I'm thinking about getting a Rasberry Pi

http://www.raspberrypi.org/

That will run XBMC and play Hi-def. Plug in external hard drive and plug in to plasma any you're away! cost? about $50!

Bugger I just jumped in the deep end and bought myself my own birthday present... an Acer revo 3700. It will handle all of the Media distribution through this household though and will be used as a Nas server as well.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ACER-Aspi...item2316f5e7bc

As soon as it arrives off goes Foxtel... or the phone call to Foxtel and the supposed half price or less chat with their retention team 2 days before cut off.

Only way Foxtel will keep me on now will be a free IQ2 (HD) install and half the price of my current costs... Which is 93 bucks for everything except for movies.

The other thing that Apple TV wont do is run VPN's.... Still it's a unit I seriously looked at getting.

Didn't see that Raspberry one though and looks damn useful to me. Can it be networked to the Revo running Windows 7

.

Consider it as well fitted to being a SmartTV upgrade for your telly. Low enough power consumption that you can leave it running (~3W), an ethernet interface, and 1080p xbmc.

Chief issue at the moment is you can't get your hands on one, the initial manufacturing run was 30-40x oversubscribed and sold out in minutes.

Great piece of technology.

Impossible to get at the moment though.

I've just got the latest WD TV Live Streaming media player (now $115 from Officeworks) - awesome.

I love my Apple TV too, bought it to watch Netflix which is great. I couldn't find out if Netflix could be used on an Australian WD TV live box as would have preferred that.
