Just when you think you live in a world of PC gone insane, spare a thought for these people.
It could happen with any religion at any time. This only proves to me that a person may be inteligent but people are f***wits.

What an absolute crock of shit this 'religion' is.
There is another thread on here about what people want for Christmas.
Here's what I want for Christmas: A world without Islam.

It's not just Islam.

It's all religions.

I can't see a teacher in a Catholic or Protestant country getting 40 lashes for naming a teddy Jesus.

No of course not, but I do believe we've fought 'Holy wars', killed people believing they had been inhabited by 'devils' instead of treating their medical issues etc etc. Waco, the FCLDS, etc... Catholic and protestant priests abusing children...
There's plenty of harm done in the name of religion and it's not just in Islamic countries.

Sure, it's just that these pricks seem to take the most massive offence to the most trivial of matters. Christianity got over these kind of issues centuries ago.

Yes, that is true, but the Christain religions have been through a civilising reformation since the holy wars. Islam sadly hasn't, and maintains many of the barbaric injustices that the rest of the world dispensed with long ago.

As for the acts of random wierdos and individuals/small groups now, well you can't account for them - they will happen anyway, given religion or some other stimulus. Th problem with islam is that there is a huge number of believers that feel it is right to carry on as if it were still the dark ages.

The other key point is that (most) western nations have reasonably secular societies, where religion and government are kept firmly apart. In most islamic nations it is very hard to see the lines between religion and the state, and then the state starts acting in such a way because the religious conservatives say that is the way it should be. Turkey is teetering on the edge of abandoning secular government in favour of sharia law, which is why the EU is so relectant to welcome them in with open arms.

Other reasonably secular islamic nations of note are Pakistan (currently a dictatorship) and Iraq under Saddam Hussain. He only adopted islam as a means to generate support against a potential American invasion.

Mixing government and religion really doesn't work, and I always get nervous when politicians use their faith as a card in elections etc. I'd rather it was kept entirely separate.

Just read iPoms link. What a total crock of bow locks. I would have thought, in my innocent way, that it would be worse for the bear to be called David or something "English". She's an English teacher FFS. Asks the kids to name a sodding bear and the kids do so she ends up in prison because that makes sense. Tw*ts :curse:

And yet, there are plenty of western religious set ups which still run their religions as though they are still in the dark ages too. I've had direct experience of them... born again Christian churches who castigate women for wearing makeup, who re-enforce the 'male is the head of the household' idea in turn re-enforcing sexism and paternalistic ideas, which in turn leads to abuse...

Many of these western practices are not 'small groups'. The FLDS is hardly a minority as born again Christianity isn't either. I've seen someone having demons cast out of them and in all likelihood, the woman was having a fit.

I was the person castigated as a whore for wearing makeup by a male fundamentalist Christian preacher in front of hundreds of people and a very famous one at that. (I was 12 at the time)
So don't think it's just Islamic religion which is still in the dark ages.

There are also many very good people who follow the Islamic faith and who don't descend into the Dark ages... I think there are many more of them than there are fundamentalist nut cases.

It's the same with all religions. A small minority give the whole a bad reputation. My main issue with any religious zealots is that they are generally the members of society who have little or no compassion for others. A total bunch of f*c*w*ts:curse:

No, but they are in control of the government, army, navy, airforce, chemical weapons, nuclear weapons etc.

These groups that you mention are just that - groups - and even though some may be large, they don't (yet) hold any massed positions of power, which non secular islamic fundamentalists do...

The worrying thing is what happens when they do start to gather momentum and make it into government with non secular ideas.
