Anti-Americanism, Anti-Foreigners of any kind?

Ah, Don Cherry...I still remember the Rick Mercer episode where Rick tagged along with him to the fabric store. I was not surprised to find out that Don prefers the drapery and upholstery section.

Did you watch Royal Canadian Air Farce? Kind of like Australia's Chaser's war on Everything. That was a well made show.

Thankfully not. Or my malpractice premiums would be tremendous. America, as I am sure you know is a very litigious society. Probably the only country where literally hundreds of people pray that they slip and fall and break their necks at the mall, so they can live the rest of their miserable lives in front of the box watching Fox, and drinking Budweiser.

Ah... Rick Mercer and his funny newfie accent. My favorite has to be the one where he asks Stephen Harper about his cold relationship with the media and stays overnight at Sussex drive, getting babied by the PM.

And you think Aus is backward in comparison to that?

I don't think America is better as a whole than Australia, but when I see some things that we are as Americans tend to be super sensitive about not being followed, I become a little defensive.
Our humor= shit, fart, sex (toilet humor). The British humor is way and by far better. I must have spent hundreds of hours watching a Little bit of Fry and Laurie, Blackadder, Monty Python etc.
Healthcare= no comparison. Like I said earlier, I would be happy to take a pay cut, if we could get everyone covered under a Universal health system. I highly doubt it would ever happen though.
I could go on and on like this. I do apologize for having been possibly too high and mighty, and 'holier than thou'. I think both countries are not perfect, but can learn a lot from one another. I admit, America probably would have to learn a little more from Australia than the other way round.
Canada is what America should strive to be.

Royal Canadian Air Farce was good too...chicken cannon...sheesh.
This Hour Has 22 Minutes...best when Mary Walsh was still there. Nothing like Marg Delahunty in her Xena outfit swinging her sword on Parliament Hill. Would anything like that happen in the US? I don't think so.

I'm on a US-based parenting forum now and again and there's a huge number of rabid conservatives who post lengthy diatribes against Canada and anything in US policy that they perceive is taking them down the path towards resembling Canada. It was pretty eye opening for me to find that anti-Canada rhetoric is so prevalent in some US circles. Shucks, and we Canadians think we're not even on the US consciousness radar...apparently we're the substance of quite a few nightmares.

Well, you know, flattery gets you everywhere.

'Reactionary' is a word that comes to mind. And of course, a lot of people think they're Ian Hislop, which means they can be aggressive and rude in the name of banter, just like him.
A lot of the aggression on this thread seems to stem from British expats living in Oz, taking offence at any perceived slight on their adopted country. And I've seen a few comments on this thread along the lines of 'don't bring your snooty upper class values to australia cos we do things differently round here' in relation to the mention of 'wog' etc. Well, I'd say, 'don't bring your snarling snivelling British attitude with you, leave it at home in blighty, please'. Australians, on the whole, seem a fairly laid back bunch (horizontal), and don't waste energy getting worked up about stuff.
I could be wrong of course..

I see a subforum talking about moving back to the UK for retirement, I probably would move back to Canada. After all, I still have a house there.
Why am I not surprised?

you come across as quite a nice bloke, I don't understand why so many on this thread have taken so much offence at what you've written.
