Me too, should be here next week, it's all very confusing but is probably quote simple in reality. I decided on the Wi-fi without 3G in the end, I've spent all day debating that!

See - now you've got me worrying again? My reasoning was not the $50 saving but the fact that we have wi-fi at home and that's where I'm likely to download my books but who's to know whether having 3G would have been the better option, I changed my mind several times and admit to fretting about it all almost to the point of not pressing the 'confirm order' button. When I did eventually press the button I admit to feeling sick.

No way of knowing I guess, but if you have WiFi at home then my (admittedly amateurish) guess is that you should be OK. I'm just crossing my fingers that I do like it after all, I've been assured I will and I'm 99.9% sure he's right, but I do have this nagging voice in the back of my head going "you silly twit, look at all that money you've wasted

With him you can never be sure

I just hope he doesn't let the girls stroke mine....
.......its being delivered to his address, probably before I get there
I shall definitely report back on what its like - and how well it performs at 37,000 feet on the flight back.

Hello!
Can someone with a UK bought Kindle3 3G try to access Gmail over 3G (not Wifi) while outside the UK please. Once you have done that please post country and if your atempt has been successful.
It is definitely possible to do that with a US bought Kindle3 3G but so far I just know from one UK Kindle3 3G user who attempted that and he stated that it was not possible with the UK model. He only managed to access Wiki and Amazon over 3G while outside the UK.
I try to figure out if this was a user error or if the UK Kindle 3G has less functionality.
If you test this, please make sure that you try to access Gmail over 3G. Through Wifi it's working fine but this is not helpful in my case.
For everyone who is wondering why this would be needed. Travelling and trekking with a cheap cell phone equipped with local pre-paid SIM cards and a Kindle3 3G is all that would be needed to stay in contact (phone, mail), get news and carry books and music without having to sign any contracts and without being depended on any infrastructure except a power outlet once in a while.
Cheers
Toni
