It amazes me how people react to threads!

What I can't believe is the thread on supermarkets! Apparently if you're happier with fewer options then you're generally a better person. And what supermarket you choose determines whether you like Oz or not.
And you're not allowed hanker for something you liked 'back home' or it means you're not settling/integrating/are a racist (ok, i made that last one up
).
Maybe the heat in Aus is getting to people??!

In my experience (http://britishexpats.com/forum/showp...&postcount=232) it wasn't, although I still do buy the odd British item, when I fancy something.
There is a big difference between "not being allowed to hanker after something", and "it being essential to have something similar to Tescos in Australia to be able to settle".

What I can't believe is that people took what I wrote so seriously. It was a lighthearted joke. There was a big smilie grin at the end. Some people (no one in particular) take things too seriously.

I've never known a forum like this one for people taking themselves too seriously. I can only put it down to the stress of emigration
(unless the mods are doctoring all the posts
)

I think I was the one that replied in that thread about people possibly not settling, but it was in reply to a person saying "But don't you think that to many people, finding something familiar, eg a supermarket with "homely" products, is actually essential to feeling able to settle in their new country?"

Yes, but you have to admit that people get jumped on for asking innocent questions on here sometimes. It's irrelevant WHY someone wants to bring shampoo/buy chocolate/whatever, if they ask the question they ask the question. I'm all up for a bit of gentle ribbing but there's definitely an element on here who can't wait to take the opportunity to smugly pass judgement on those us of yet to emigrate.
But at the end of the day, it's shampoo, not worth anyone losing any sleep over it right?
*insert copious smilies here*
