I love Costco.... I heard it's opening in Melbourne first though...

We've been shopping at ALDI for a few years and now probably buy more than 50% of our groceries there. We find that their own brands tend to be better quality than other stores' own brands. There are a few things that we do not like but generally most of it is good. We find their fruit and vegetables to be excellent, they do seem to be delivered daily, they do not seem to have cold storage at our store so they are sold out by mid afternoon most days, you know that anything bought in the morning is quite fresh, we find it keeps better than similar items from other stores. Keep away from their own brand of chocolate, it is highly dangerous, good price, good quality but highly addictive. Like their Soy milk but wish they'd sort out the containers.

Yesterday Woolies were selling lettuce at $3.49 and tomatoes at $4.99 kilo. Today I bought a fresh lettuce for 99cents and a kilo of tomatoes exactly the same for 99cents at Aldi
Woolies and Coles need a a wake up call. They don't deserve our custom:curse:

i guess the queenslanders like to stick to what they have been used to.....or its simply lack of awareness.... i think the Adverstisement they have been doing are helping though...this weekend had more than the usual number of customers....
one thing i keep telling my friends who still go to coles (their reason is they buy the SALE stuff) i tell them that with ALDI you dont need to look for a sale because 70% of all their item are and will be always cheaper than coles...
btw, i agree that the chocolate is very affordable and bad because it is addicting....have just tried their White Chocolate....yummy....

You have me curious now. I live in Auchenflower, Brisbane. Do any of you know where the nearest store is please? I can't recall seeing one anywhere.

Does anyone know when they will next be selling their desktop PC's ? I see there was a new one out in Germany, so I am not sure how long it takes to filter through to Oz.

Not many places beat Aldi for price, but MSY do.

Theres an outlet in Brooklyn for you.

The ice cream is nice. Love the raspberry and white chocolate.
We often find the food in aldi has less additives, might be the stuff imported from Europe where they have tighter rules on adding crap to food.

I was really interested to come across this thread earlier - our food bills seem astronomical at the moment so I'm looking to cut back wherever we can.
I had a look at the Aldi website and it's actually got some really helpful tools on there to help you compare prices. As a little exercise (yes, I probably do have too much time on my hands) I found this week's shopping receipt from Woolies and compared a few things at random. Results as follows:
(B) 2 x Fresh Pizza Bases WW $4.39 Aldi $3.69
(W) Low Fat Coleslaw 225g WW $3.09 Aldi $3.09
(B) Frozen Cobbettes 800g WW $3.49 Aldi $1.99 (1kg)
(W) 2 x Low Fat Yogurts WW $2.51 Aldi $1.79
(W) Tuna Chunks 95g WW 99c Aldi 89c
(B) Baked Beans WW $1.59 Aldi 45c
(W) Tomato Paste 500g WW $1.29 Aldi $1.29
(B) Orange Juice 3L WW $5.98 Aldi $3.99
(W) Peanuts 200g WW $1.98 Aldi 99c
(B) Multigrain Flakes 645g WW $4.99 Aldi $3.99
(W) 2ply Toilet Tissue 8pk WW $5.49 Aldi $3.99 (12pk)
(W) 680g Soy Linseed Loaf WW $2.75 Aldi $2.69
$38.54 $28.84
Total Saving $9.70
Anyhoo, I've marked those items I bought which were Woolworths own (W) and branded (B) but to be honest we've only taken to buying branded stuff since we've got here because we haven't been able to find own brand equivilents. I also cannot comment on fresh meat, veg or fruit as I found it hard to compare these online (what with weights etc) and obviously I cannot comment on quality but I thought it was interesting to compare those cupboard-type foods. We will definately be seeking our our nearest Aldi this weekend for our weekly shop. Hope this inspires somebody else to have a look and save some pennies

They do in Melbourne
. Tried some $4 Chardonnay which wasn't disgusting but I wouldn't get it again. Got some Shiraz Merlot to try tonight so will report back. Will have to give the James Squires Ale lookalike a try as well.
