Yes, there is very much a "noble savage" approach in education, especially. The movie, "The Rabbit Proof Fence" is often held up as being "real" as well but the lady in question, when she saw the movie said "that's not my story!" People dont like to hear it but Keith Windschuttle has been rigorous in going through contemporary accounts of the dealings with aborigines and has highlighted any number of errors in the currently being espoused version - some of the wilder claims are verifiably wrong.

The other thing to bear in mind is that it wasn't just the aborigines who were stolen - there is a generation of young white kids here who were stolen from their families in the name of child protection as well - it was the practice of the times. What happened to both groups after that was horrific in parts - although some fell on their feet with good adoptive families.

The poor fella me is now an industry unfortunately and the nett result is that nowadays social workers are too scared to remove kids from what are patently abusive situations because they are black. What we are doing to this generation and allowing pack child rape, infants with stds and kids who die of neglect amongst other behaviours is, in my mind far worse than the original removal of half caste children who were being preyed upon by both colours or who were relinquished by one parent or the other!

If peoples personal experiences are that much/most of the crime and personal assaults being carried out in that area are by aborigines, why do you get upset so much when they say so?
Is it your belief that by simply stating their personal experience that they "contribute to the problem" even if what they say is true?
Have we reached the point, as we did in parts of the UK, where it's no longer acceptable to mention peoples colour/race in relation to crime in case it offends?

That is their perception. Statistically its not true that "most" of the crimes are committed by aborigines. Most crimes are committed by non-indigenous people. But people seem to focus on the black face when it comes to crime regardless of the country it happens to be in. If the media reported the "white" crimes in the same way, if people spend as much time talking about and bagging the white criminals and socially disadvantaged in this country in a proportionate way to the actual reality then maybe I wouldnt feel the need to defend the minority. Go pick on someone else!

How about if I said that they commit a disproportionate percentage of violent crime and petty theft, regardless of their social conditions?

Then i would ask you to prove that your statement is correct by quoting your statistical sources. I would also contest that a disproportionate number of indigenous people are living in poverty, which possibly explains the disproportionate crime rate if in deed your statemnt is proven to be correct.

Have you ever thought what the sheep were for? the sheep, the crops etc were food for the settlers and if its getting stolen then the settlers starve. There was no dole in those days. Do you think the settlers did these things for no reason?

OK, I give up. Pointless discussing it, as anybody who says that there is a problem with crime and violence in the Aboriginal community is, of course, a racist.

It's the standard response these days... used to suppress uncomfortable facts.

OK, so lets take the emotion out of it & agree on the following based on the stats.

Is it correct that there are proportionatly more crimes committed by

a) white people?
b) Aborigine people?
