The ABS stats seem to put the blame on education and alcohol/tobacco more than housing and food costs. But when you look at the stats on the ABS site it's no wonder things feel tight - who's scored a 5%+ pay rise in the last year?

I did. But the average was a bit less.

From ABS: In the twelve months to February 2011, full-time adult total earnings rose by 4.0% for males and 4.5% for females.
