It's coming so I hope it brings more than it takes.

I'm optimistic it will, I'm in that kind of mood.

Come one, come all.

It'll look pretty good and should boost the area.

Maybe the police could stretch to running two helicopters with the proceeds

So? Its looking (if press are to be believed - and I realise thats a silly idea) like the 2018 Commonwealth Games may be in our backyard here in SEQ.

Is this an outrageous waste of taxpayers money spending on infrastructure we dont need just so Qld can try and feel important? Or is it a huge opportunity for Qld to market itself to the world and inject some much needed capital into the tourism market?

Any thoughts?
You missed out several important questions. Some examples would be:

Will the chooks stop laying?

Will cows stop milking?

Will the curtains fade?

Will there be Aussie-themed sports though?
Maybe - goatee growing, stubbie-holder hurling, lawnmowing, burning of sausages outside a hardware store, filling in of forms requesting "sickies" in the future, walking barefoot over the broken glass in a shopping centre carpark, not forgetting one for the marshalls - Fastest Official to eject any spectator cheering too loudly and waving vigorously..........

Running one every day would be a start.

Wow suprised any city would want to bid after the last couple of games have become so obsolete. Seems like the competition was not so tough, a town in Sri Lanka i had never heard of. But being a sports fan myself i would say if you live in the area you will get some nice facilities and a bit of attention for a couple of weeks so heyho why not.

On a side note, London just won the 2017 World Athletic Championships, for me the Athletics are the best part of the Olympics any way so great for them to come back so quickly. Another good thing is now the running track is safe, i could never understand that we could hold an olympics and end up loosing the track afterwards and get just another football stadium. GB is one of the best track and field teams in the world and has a long proud history in the sport and there should be an international class athletics facility in London.
