So? Its looking (if press are to be believed - and I realise thats a silly idea) like the 2018 Commonwealth Games may be in our backyard here in SEQ.

Is this an outrageous waste of taxpayers money spending on infrastructure we dont need just so Qld can try and feel important? Or is it a huge opportunity for Qld to market itself to the world and inject some much needed capital into the tourism market?

Any thoughts?

If they use the same marketing team as the FIFA bid Qld should be safe.

Regarding tourism I really cannot see a rush of visitors into the country without a big fall in the AUD. It's just too expensive here for a good part of the world to visit.

I thought the commonwealth games were being used as a catalyst to fast track the extension of the new light rail system? I know it might be better/cheaper to just do it anyway without the games but these things seem to go hand in hand?

I think they are planning on extending it to meet up with the heavy rail to brisbane and down to the gold coast airport (eventually). I think the games speeds some of this up.

Heres a tip,now XMas,at Christmas,is approaching,the amount of Milk Bar(Daires)7-11's etc being robbed will be astronomical,not saying the ferel bogans,but stats from Kiwilund suggest not the brightest and most hard working Bro's have flocked to the Goldy,and cuzzies need money ehh bro.

The melbourne games seemed to pass me by totally so maybe less everywhere watch these days...but maybe enough new emerging markets to make them worthwhile...assume they punch the numbers based on recent past figures.
