Re: Getting a job in Barbados
52 days to go!! YAY!
Hope you are all well & enjoying yourselves.
Ali- I'm there 23/07/07-08-01/08 but not sure when my Ali will be there yet, I'll get back to you with more info & you can join our gang at the Carib!
General query- do you pay any form of council tax in Barbados? Will I just need to pay Gas, water & electric? In other words- have I forgotten anything for my budget?!
Another quickie- if someone posts me a parcel etc when I'm over there- do I pay tax on this? I heard a vague rumour about this.
Take care everyone, see you soon!

No council tax here (God knows that there are enough other taxes :curse
You could have to pay duty on stuff sent in a parcel, depends what it is. If it is just personal stuff, you may get away with paying nothing. Also depends if you ship it via the post, or through someone like Fedex or DHL. The latter two will likely charge you the proper duty and taxes, as they have to do everything by the book. At the post office, they will likely charge you less tax as they cannot be bothered to look up the correct tax codes and fill in all the paperwork.
I will respond to your e-mail directly.
Take care
John

Hiya
Does anyone know of any reasonable 1 or 2 bed apartments for rent in Christ Church? I am looking at renting for a year and 2 bedrooms is preferable.
Thanks

Don't remind me Friends from Holland mailed me they had send me some cd's. Then I told them about the opening ritual at the postoffice.
Never forget their reaction; OH NOOOOOO, you're joking!!!
Ehm, no, why???????
After a lot of uhm-ing and ah-ing, they admitted they'd send me a little sextoy aswell
For about 3 weeks I had nightmares about me opening my parcel in the postoffice with people rolling on the floor of laughter all around me
When the parcel arrived I did my" I haven't got a clue what's in the parcel bit" in front of the clerck while my hands where shaking.
I couldn't believe it was all just a wind-up
They obviously had been tempting to tell me before the parcel had arrived but because of my constant;" I just can't believe you have done this, I'll never forgive you!!! How am I to react!?" they got scared
They'd rather put up with my relieved reaction afterwards......

Re: Getting a job in Barbados
Hi everyone..only 40 days to go!!
Just wanted to let you know about my 190day visit visa query. I emailed [email protected] twice but no reply so I rang the Embassy in London.
Basically, I'm ok so long as I have adequate time left on my passport-6 months. The gentleman said that there wasn't a limit on the time for a UK person to visit BB. I did ask for written confirmation but I apparently won't need it. Maybe I'm being a bit over cautious but it would be a nightmare to encounter problems once I've got there. So any idea who may be able to confirm this in writing?
Also I checked what is classed as "evidence of sufficient funds to support myself" and there is no guideline- it is at the discretion of customs but rule of thumb was 1000-1500 BD$ per month you are there.
Well I hope this helps someone.
John- Looks like I'll be renting Curtis's apartment, just sorting the details out- he's promised me piccies of you both, see if I recognise you from my visit!

Hi
Just came across this site by chance and was reading some of the threads.
Can I ask you if you know my Spanish friend Eva in Bilbao? Might just be co-incidence but thought I'd ask just in case

Re: Getting a job in Barbados
Hi Belinda,
Wow that was quick!
I'm going out for a week's holiday on Saturday and am so looking forward to catching up with my friends. I've been going there for 12 years, have lost count of how many times I have been there...... and am also thinking about a move maybe in the near future. Have always wanted to do it and maybe next year I will finally - but need to look at the right way to go about it and found the discussions really interesting..
Which companies are you interviewing with?

Well, the world is so small. Do I know Eva from Bilbao??
Not sure if that question was meant for me, but I would think I know her.
I was married to her.
Heidi, its John, Eva's X. How the hell are you?

Oh just for a week..hmm.. so you will leave on 29th?? I will be there from July 7th til 28th with a one week interruption (trip to The Grenadines). How sad that you won´t there while I will be....but I hope we will be able to go for a drink later on???
Well I will have appointments with 4 of the (so said) most renowned advertising agencies there, and I am little bit nervous about because I never had interviews in English before......but I am trusting myself and am very optimistic! I started researching for a way to move there somewhen last year, and within the last 2 months all was getting so fast, this was so exciting. Now I am 99% sure that all will work out for us, it just depends on the interviews, but I think it will be positive. I will go to Barbados with my 2 best friends, and my husband will follow us with my daughter for the last week - hopefully, if he will be able to get a lastminute flight.
How are your future plans for travelling there, maybe in January? If everything goes like we are planning we will be there at least at the middle of December, or at best, in August or September.
