Wherever there is building/construction, you need someone to do the drawings.

It will all be about aussie experience here, take any job for that experience then go out on your own in the area you fancy living. Remember too, the majority of new build homes in australia are not one off designs but designs by companies with display homes, pick a plan, add a facade, and reproduce it several hundred times. Fair bit of commercial work tho.

Thanks for the advice, I think I need to work from the bottom up as I need to learn the Australian building code as I only know the British building regulations.

Hi Cantwait

How busy is it do you feel? Buderim is certainly one of the places we will be visiting on our validation trip. I do sense it is very popular with us brits. Is it in danger of being over developed? I guess we would all be interested in knowing your thoughts.

Buderim started out as a village, thats the bit on top of the mountain, almost built out now. As thats built out the estates that have the name buderim have spread, land a good 5klm from the top now have the name buderim attached because its that sort of area people want to live. The main street is nice, all facilities and incredibly pretty trees but very busy.

It is popular with brits, but I dont think as yet it has the awful 'pom suburb' or 'little britian' tag like north perth or bayside brisbane  Its just as popular with south africans//interstate people as poms.

Its popular as it its less than 10 mins drive to beach, all the best private schools are there. Its already well developed, has all the facilites such as shops, banks, docs, hospital, and more are planned were just looking at plans for the library. University and TAFE college are on the boundary, its also incredibly green all year round, has tons of green belt and parkland. Nice area but although its called a village remember its 36,000 + people, not in the UK village sense.

Dear Jad n Rich

Many thanks for your reply, very informative. The "Little Britain" tag would be my fear. I hope we will have good warm fuzzy feeling when we go have a look. Would love to hear from any other residents on what they think.

I just have to say that the only place I have ever heard anyone refer to bayside as little britain is on this expats forum. Certainly a lot of newcomers to Brisbane like the area - but that includes interstate migrants and also people from all over.

At our primary school, of the kids I know in the same year as my kids, I can think of 1 from Wales, 1 with an English mum, several Kiwis, an American, a Canadian, a couple of Japanese, a South African, an Aboriginal, a Greek, an Indonesian and a whole heap of Aussies.

Cheers,

DagBoy

We moved here about the same time as you cantwait. We love it, it is busy when school's in or out, but hey you can't everything... cause it has everything else! - for us anyway.

Re: Whats wrong with Buderim??

In my opinion, the fact that certain areas in Australia (the Sunshine Coast being one of them), have a high concentration of POMs can only be a GOOD thing. Moving here can be a difficult experience, we have all been through it and are able to help and support each other. If we looked for the same help and support from an aussie, we would be told we were whinging POMs!!! Not that I dislike the aussies, I just think some of them are on a different wavelength.

In regards to Buderim itself, it's a fantastic place. The commercial boom seems to be sticking to the shoreline towns (Mooloolaba, Maroochydore etc), so Buderim is a lovely place to live, as it is still mostly residential. But at the same time it's only 5-10 mins drive to the beach :D

I have been looking on the www.realestate.com.au site and there appears to be an huge number of properties for sale in the Noosa - Caloundra - Buderim area. Can anyone give a reason why? I did a search for property 350 -450K 3 - 4 bedrooms and had 30 pages = 300 listings come up. Would these all be current or could they be old listing not removed do you think?

Any feed back on these areas would be appreciated. :)

Gillian.
