In addition to the compulsory third party personal, well advised young drivers would have third party property which traditionally was considerably cheaper than comprehensive insurance. I have not checked the premiums for some time.

Australias got one of the highest young driver death rates in the world.

To insure a $8000 car for our then 17 year old was around the $1600 simarly shocking on aussie wages and he had to carry a $1500 excess to get it that low. Just think your lucky your not off to new zealand kids can drive at 15 there
My Nephew is not on great money either but you are looking at 10 - 12 weeks wages just to pay for his £2000 insurance ,this does not seem practical when to this you add petrol, repairs + socialising In comparison (guessing) $1600 is only about 5 -7 weeks wages?

I see your point about your teenage hoons very frustrating

Hi

Yes the car insurance over is cheaper, first you are not required to have any (part from the gov insurance, about 280 pounds which is for the car tax and third party cover that covers buildings, people but not cars!).

I just puchased a Ford Territory (4 L 6 Cylinders, 182Kw of power, between a car and a 4wd) and the insurance (Fully Comp) for me an my wife with No Claims discount protection I am paying 320 pounds!!!
