Website for kids emigrating

As part of my Website Design course I've decided to put together a website aimed at Parents of children who are, or are considering, emigrating to Australia.

What I'm looking for is some suggestions of content please :) Basically I'd like to know what information you'd like included which you think may help make the transition easier for your kids. I wont be looking at suburb specific areas because that would just be crazy and would take up the next ten years of my life.......so we're just talking Australia wide. The site will hopefully appeal to all ages and will be very user friendly.

So far heres what I've got:

After school activities
Hints & Tips on coping with the move
Stories from other children who've made the move
Australian Wildlife
Beach Life
What our kids did on the flight!
Links to other useful sites
Photo gallery - if you've got some photos of your kids doing exciting stuff that you wouldnt mind being included then please feel free to pass them on :)
School ages/years with links to various eductation websites

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks

Maybe a message board for kids so they can chat together similar to what we do on BE. You can download a very simple template from Google for free.

Wonderful idea!

Its something I asked the question about quite recently, and having a site like this would be incredibly useful.

Would the hints and tips on coping with the move include helping sprogs cope with being so far away from other family?

Schooling hints, similarities and differences in style of education would be handy, they can be prepared for differences in advance and hopefully make the transition a little easier (my stepson doesn't know we're kiboshing his summer holiday yet )

Can't think of anything specific that you haven't mentioned yet, but we're months and months away from the move yet, but will keep this in mind as we get closer.

Ansolutely love the idea, very best of luck with it :thumbsup:

Thanks Niki

Some good ideas there :) I'll add them to my list :)

Heres a quick snap shot of what the site will look like (very early days though as I only started it yesterday :)

Like the look of it!

Links to other sites would be cracking - you might be able to get some banner advertising to help it pay for itself?

I like Maireads suggestion of a message board as well as it puts the kids in communication with other kids who have been in/are in exactly the same situation. Lets face it, kids will almost always talk more easily with each other when something is bothering them than with the dreaded olds :D

I'll have a chat with my stepson tomorrow (the one who's moving with us) & ask him, and we have the one of the elder 2 over (who are staying in UK) tomorrow as well, see what they would suggest.

Chances are it will be the same as most sites, they develop over time from users suggestions, but as I said earlier, I really do think its a fantastic idea

Great idea, I was thinking of what else you could
include, maybe.....for the kids....in addition to a
message board, some colouring pages, puzzles,
dot to dot pages, but then Australia related.

Maybe there can also be a message board for
parents where they can talk about kids related
issues, or maybe start a babysit/sleepover circle?
As many of us come to Australia without that kind
of support.

Anyway good luck with you site and good luck
with your course

Miranda :)

I don't know where you'll find them but some published articles, simply written, giving some facts and figures and history of Aus. Before we came my youngest was always saying that friends had asked this and that and she didn't have the answers. Nothing I found was suitable for them so I had to 'downgrade' slightly but it would be great on one site.

Stuff like the size, indigenous people, animals, birds etc. A bit vague Rach but I think you know what I'm babbling about:)

Accupuncture's fantastic! Had it for whiplash a few years ago, soooo relaxing and totally painless.
