Default WANTED - a worthwhile wanted down under prog to watch

I don't know about you but OMG the series seems to be a joke.....
an excuse for the bbc to waste huge amounts of money and here are my reasons for thinking this though not in a particular order...

1 week in Oz - thats barely long enough to get over a flight let alone see if the area is for you.
they have to choose between city, country an coast, if you were serious about making a move surely they should have them try a job and houses etc in each area....
a 2 - 3 week trip is much more realistic...

I haven't managed to watch all of them so there may be some exceptions, but could they pick some families that have genuinely put some thought into emigrating what it woulld involve and not families who wouldn;t move if they couldn;t convince hubby, daughter etc to go????
The other day it seemed like bbc just paid for the family to be reunited with the womans dad !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the conclusion to moving out there was doubtful at best.

An what is up with ppls families an friends, how bl**dy unsupportive? guilt guilt guilt.

Could we please have a more realistic program which actually would give families who genuinely want to move an idea of lifestyle and living in Oz, this can only be done by giving them plenty of choices....

Right now we just watch them to take the pee out of what a joke the program is !!!!!

Sorry for those of you that are enjoying it.

There is another thread a bit further down that talks abou the series in detail. This series does seem to be quite disappointing.

Pop! Just putting on my whinging hat.... ...but yeah I'm with you. It seems like we've been researching our move forever and these people go over and go.."oh, so we can't get a massive house on the beach, work ten hours a week and have no mortgage??" And if the families have a budget why do the makers of the show insist on showing them places way out of their reach??

I especially liked the 'dad' who said he 'just couldn't go on' if his daughter left...thanks dad!!!

Hmm - I think I'm just bitter that I'm not getting a free week in Oz!

Yep totally agree - Families attitudes stink as far as i am concerned, how selfish some of them are - not all - the daughter on last night was very supportive of her mum making the move....that was nice to see, and to be honest is what you'd expect from a loved one.....

Also another point I'd mention is about the family who had the 2 daughters (think N Zealand episode) daughters were 2 and 4 and the presenter made a comment about the parents having to "convince the children it is a good idea to move"......what....... they were 2 and 4 years old for god's sake.........

I think it's hilarious when they give the kids a vote! Then when the kids 'vote' differently to the parents Nikki goes 'OH NO! the family is split!!'. erm, the kids are kids dear, I doubt a five year old's 'opinion' will come into consideration.

My other half and I have decided to start viewing this as a comedy every night over dinner. Highly entertaining. Although guessing who'll decide to stay and who'll decide to go is getting a bit too easy. When they open with 'there's no way I can leave my family' it's a bit of a giveaway

I seem to have to post this on every thread on this subject. The people that take part in these programmes are just like you and I - people wanting to move to Australia, and in many cases they are people who are posting on this website. Please remember that before making personal remarks.

The trouble is I think more families wouldn't come across so negative about their Australia experience if they were actually given a proper experience, how the BBC expect anyone to make a decision based on such limited options is beyond me.

Make a decent emigration program or don't bl**dy bother.

I would rather see things like a family who is interested in say Perth or Brisbane getting to spend at least a week in both and excploring the three different areas.

Perhaps I have been a little harsh, I remember having a chat with someone from the last series who said the editing of their trip made them looking like they moaned all the time when that wasn't the case.

But the way the programs been done in my mind doesn't make many of the families look very positive and it makes the program look a bit pointless to be honest.

My hubby gets such a bee in his bonnet about it though I don't know whats more comical to watch him or the program.

Remember these programmes have been highly edited and are "sensationalist" so that they appeal to the mass market, not really people seriously considering emigration, who have hopefully done their research. Before we came to Oz, but afterwe had applied, I watched some, to get an idea of what the houses were like, and comparing salaries and working hours. I also watched "Most Deadly" which had lots of very poisonous Australian creatures, so that I knew what to look out for- but again, very aware that it is packaged in sensationalist hype. I have only seen a whitetail from the deadly list, oh and some stingrays and bluebottles on the beach. The average person isn't going to meet all the nasties.

That's what I thought, but I was bitten by an eastern brown snake minutes after getting off the plane, and then bitten by a redback in the ambulance on the way to hospital !

ok I'll admit I made it up.

But this is a "wanted down under" thread, we wouldn't want the truth to get in the way of a good story....

Always watch them but they are just typical daytime drivel really. The exchange rates vary during the programme and is it just me or does the presenter put a downer on the ones emigrating to Oz with everything negative and the couple of NZ ones they have been positive comments from Nikki doing the voiceovers.

Just to add sooooo glad we don't have kids, it may well be how the programme is edited but could happily leave many of them at home or worse! although yesterdays one where the chap worked/ran a garden centre the younger girl 11 years old I think was a sweetie such a sensible head on her shoulders.
