I'm probably not the best one to answer that as my visa is via defacto.
Aren't you better off going over on a WHV (working holiday visa) first before you commit? You'll have a visa and if you wanted to stay on I'm pretty sure you can do that onshore which would (I think) give you leave to remain in Australia whilst it gets processed!
I think at the moment it's about 9-12 months, but if you were already there it wouldn't matter as it may be taken care of via a bridging visa when your WHV expired..It could be a quicker route for you to take!

As I say I don't have much if any knowledge about this..but a friend did it two years ago and is now living in Sydney ..so something went right there!! I'll try and find out what he did for you.
It'll be cheaper for the WHV visa, and when/if you apply for a PR permanent residency visa you may be working and living there, which is bound to give you a leg up..Oh, it's cheaper to apply for a PR in Australia and if you can do it onshore you can be there when it's granted.
Again..I think
I think some guys 'over complicate' things with visa's. I tend to try and keep it simple!!

What's the worst that can happen - spend all your money and end up there and you don't like it?
Borrow some money and come home and start again.
You're young and relatively commitment free. Go for it.

Steen....you by chance wasn't a British Labour minister in the last government were you...I sense a connection with your theory somehow

Maybe because it's my attitude and opinion and I'm doing exactly the same with my cash. I'm not worried because I know if it all goes wrong I'll get home and start again. I'm not risk averse. Perhaps I'd have more cash to lose if I was mind.

Don't you think it would be better to let people know of your experiences...like, after you've had them maybe..Your a little like the lemming on the cliff top telling all your lemming mates to jump because you're eventually going to do it too!...Strange and you're either stupid rich..stupid being the main word or the only person in the UK in it's current economic climate who's happy to throw away 'loads of money'...your not a plasterer with Loads of money ..Oh could be
Oh..and I do know the lemming things a myth, then again so are sensible people who waste money..

Just giving an opinion. If he agrees then fine - but he might not and he might think that losing all his money and hating it would too much of a risk. My opinion is 'go for it'. This is a discussion forum after all and at no point is their a disclaimer anywhere stating otherwise.

Correct fella
It's right to be able to give one's opinion, absolutely true..I gave it, that's all
Are you saying I should keep them to myself
Sorry fella it's time you came back...You've been there too long, and you're losing it already..maybe not your cash..
but for sure your sense of humour!!
Have to be careful ..it does happen

You must have a set of teeth like broken gravestones if you go around thinking that was being humourus?
