IMHO These people have a problem leaving behind the 'council estate, 'I'm a builder you know', chav culture!

I personally think it's very, very sad, almost to the extent that I would admit to emigrating to get away from these kind of people....worrying that it still goes on though. Mind you, I thought it was just Perth that was like this? Ah well, onwards and upwards!

So what you're saying is that only people who have lived on a council estate fly flags:curse:

I personally find that comment more of a problem than seeing a flag flying for a team/country I don't support.

Re: UK Flags on display in Aus !

When I still lived in London I used to see a lot of cars with African flags, middle eastern flags and all other nationalities. My immediate thoughts then were that whilst I didnt find it offensive, it did rub me up the wrong way since I felt that migrants moving to a new country should adopt the culture and, whilst respecting thier roots and heritage, shouldn't really be so public about support of thier "home" nation by waving national flags and such.

I feel the same way about UK flags in Australia. Bearing in mind that there are a certain element of rednecks and patriotism is very high, I would certainly see no need to fly the UK flag.

Being British is not looked on well by some and I personally consider it embarassing when I see the whole "UK on display" thing.

I've met poms here who have lived for years in Australia, but yet still have this mentality that they are "abroad" amongst "johnny foreigner" and refer to everything as "over here" and compare to "back home". Flag waving to me is an extension of that.

Obviously everyone has thier own opinions and whilst mine may rub some up the wrong way at least its honest and I bet I wont be the only one who thinks that next time they see a UK flag flying from a car etc.

I don't see what all the fuss is about.

I have a small Chelsea sticker in the back window of my car because I am proud to support them.

It's not just the British that put flags or stickers in their cars, I have seen Canadian, Dutch, Greek, Italian and German ones in the last few days. It shows you are still proud of where you come from, it doesn't mean that you don't like it here.

Is it any different to seeing backpackers in London with Aussie, Swedish, Norwegian etc flags sown on their rucksacks.

I have a bit more of a problem with the people who have just landed and become instant Aussies, you know the type, UK stinks, AFL is the best game on Earth etc, etc.

There is nothing wrong in retaining a bit of national identity, that doesn't mean that you have to live in a little Britain enclave and not integrate does it.

When I get to Oz I'll be bringing my huge Welsh flag, erecting a flagpole in my front garden and flying it with pride

Never forget your Welsh.

Fair play, my OH reckons he will do that when we buy our own home - with a flag of St George though !!!

As for all the people who think it is disrespectful / sad / chavs / & should F*&K off home, I think you lot are the ones with the problem - just because people move to another country, whether it be Aus, Africa or Albania (??!!) It doesn't mean they should forget their routes, or wipe out their 'previous' life. Maybe you should all remember that you are NOT Australian - you're English / Scottish / Welsh / Irish (delete as appropriate!)

My husband has settled much better than I could have ever imagined (I'm dual nationality, my 'idea' to move us all back!) & if having a sticker in the back of HIS car offends some of you or others, quite frankly I couldn't give a shite !!!!

(Oh & btw, we didn't live in a council estate back in England)

Anyone have any good recommendations for a HUGE flag pole company ??!!

There's two houses in my suburb that actually have them on flag poles in their front gardens.

We all know Australia is effectively English, but you don't come here and show this much disrespect. If I saw anything similar in the UK, just for the sake of displaying your national roots 365 days of the year, my immediate thoughts would be "fck off home."

Australia is not effectively 'English' or 'England' (by implication) ... it is Australia.

Please tell me you're joking.

Do you really need a huge flag in your front garden to remind you where you came from? I certainly don't.

No, what you want to do is shout at everyone in your street that you're Welsh and proud, rather than letting them find out for themselves as you integrate into Australian life.

wherever I have a Scottish flag or sticker I have an Aussie one right beside it....as I said I am a dual citizen and proud of it, so if that makes me a provocative tw@t in your eyes I really dont give a flying **** to be honest.

As for fck off home I am home and intend to be here for a very very long time........with my flags flying 365 days of the year. :D :D :D
