I was just generalising out of all the countries i have personally dealt with the welsh and canadians seem to be very bitter against being seen to be english and the canadians being from the usa.
I couldnt care less if somone asked if i was welsh. When i was travelling through the states people would ask if i was irish didnt bother me one bit. I felt no reason to get on my high horse and give em a mouth full about coming from england. You ask a welsh person if hes english the look would kill you alone. But as i said before i was generalising not everyone is the same. Im english/british a bit spanish and hopefully soon to have a wee bit of aussie in me lol I like to get on with everybody colour/creed/race i have no grudges to bare with anyone :)

Just don't let your kids stand near a naked flame when they are wearing them though - one spark and WOOF!

I was born and lived in Canada for 43 years. I don't think I ever met anyone who was "bitter" about being mistaken for being American. I do correct people when they assume I'm from somewhere else. I would also correct them if they made any other incorrect assumptions but that's just me.

I've found the reverse. I think more English react badly to being called Welsh than the other way around. Added to this is that some English can't see why a Welshman would say that he's not English, therefore he's just being aggressive or awkward when he says he's not.

like a decorating competition, there's a lot of broad brushes being used in here
you are who you are, how you show it is your choice

A Mexican once pleaded for a Bayern Munich Football Club shirt I had even though it was ancient and had survived diving, sun cream etc with only a very slightly worse for wear look. Seen as he had been a very helpful bar tender I weakened and gave it to him on the last day, for some reason he put up the sign of the cross at husbands Brazil shirt. Think they have to be one of the fastest drying products known to man even in cooler climes.
