I found that there is more temptation to eat junk food takeaways, but at the same time I ate less when I was there because of the heat. Just put me off food. I find I drink more water there than here (healthy!) and eat more fruit. I have put on a stone here in the last month, I can guarantee I will have lost it after a month or two in an Australian summer. Plus, I dont drive so I have to use my feet to get anywhere.

Eat heaps of fruit, vegetables, brown rice, lean meat and restrict the dairy products. Drink plenty of water, allow yourself a few glasses of wine a couple of nights a week. One weekend night a week, have a blow out, then back to the plan on monday.

Try to do some form of exercise, gardening, walking instead of driving, pushing the hoover around with extra fervour.

Set yourself a realistic goal of one pound loss a week - doesn't sound a lot, but anything over that is a bonus!

Use a pair of trousers/skirt as a guide to your inch loss.

Finally, if you want that bar of choc, then have it. Just don't eat it's brothers and sisters too.

weight loss is mind over matter ( except where medical conditions dictate ). BE POSITIVE! BE REALISTIC! BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF!

Good luck.

Good advice Leigh!

Has anyone caught the horrendous programme on C4? If thats not enough to make you all start your diet tommorrow I don't know hat is! I'ts about the obesity problem in Housten, Texas..I've just seen a 'morbidly obese woman' eating a macaroni cheese that would feed a family of four and then put half a pound of grated cheddar on it. One man got his meal free beacuse he ate a 36oz steak and all the trimmings and stopped of at a mexican later for an all you can eat buffet. An obese woman who is having her tummy stapled just ordered enough takeout pizza to last a week! and we think we have problems!

Thanks Max, have done the weight loss thing a few times, 7.5 stones at my smallist, 12.5 at my heavyist ( am 5 feet tall )!!!

Two babies in 2 yrs does nothing for your figure, but you can get it back if you want to.

Am now trying to lose the 8lbs i put on over xmas - I ate a choc bar AND his brothers and sisters!!!!!

A balanced diet is definitely key....

I have just been drinking a virtuous hot water with lemon and have 'balanced' that out nicely with a mince pie!

I think the funny side of this post is I have yet to see a Pom arrive in OZ and not put on a total truckload of weight! (Sure some fitness freak will now say they lost it)

Anyway, life in a car kicks in as most places are too far too walk too, even posting a letter or getting the paper/milk. Most mums spend a huge chunk of the day dropping kids everywhere, its dark early in winter 5pm and 7 pm in summer so walking is hard unless you get up real early and who has the time in the morings?

Diet here is positively junkey, dont say you'll not get sucked in we have been back a week and eaten take out three times as Social entertainment plus one fatty bbq, eating is really the biggest part of entertaining here. Big macs are half the price of england (great news, the few things that are still cheaper are Petrol and Junk food ) Plus despite all the talk of outdoorsey lifestyle most find mid summer the couch and AC is far more inviting.

Trouble is people dont really think about it at first then 6 months later its "OMG I am blubber". just be aware of the less healthy lifestye as soon as you arrive, 6 months and a couple of stone later most find its too late!

Sometimes I wonder why I even read & contribute to this forum .

The body immediatly sheds water when starved hence dieters nearly always get an initial weight loss. When the glucose store has been used up the body stops losing fluid and then the feelings of hunger starts, the weight loss stops and a grouchiness sets in.

WBB lets see how your rate of weight loss and mood is in 2 weeks.

BTW Dotty I am not an exercise freak and I have become fitter, more toned and lost weight since getting to Australia. The UK and OZ and competing together to become the world second most obese nation after the US.

I know what you mean by wanting to stay in the air con in the heat but those in the UK probably want to stay in during the wet and cold. It all depends on the exercise you like doing.
