just thought I'd write an update on Colins high sea adventures from Bridport to Gold Coast
they set sail at 3pm wed he rang at 5.30pm had been sea sick already!
hes rang this morning things went from bad to worse the crossing was that rough had to take shelter at flinders for an hour. At one stage the railings were totally submerged under water boat at a 45o angle. Waves coming right over top of the boat. Despite all this he says he is loving it
they are now past Melbourne and should reach Sydney by 7pm tonight they are picking someone up there then carrying on to Sanctuary Cove.

Hi thanks for the response guys, yes its the boat hes been working on. Its so beautiful inside
No Gary I wouldnt have tried to sneak on in a million years, aside from spending 4 days couped up with 6 blokes it sounds like hell to me
I would have been petrified out there. The ferry from UK to Belguim was enough for me! <insert puking smilie>
Forcast 110k winds tonight though pretty still at the mo? been shocking up here for last few days
I fly up next thurs then we fly back together the following tues, fingers crossed the boat wont be coming back if it sells

Myself, I stll have Mother in Hospital they're trialing her on new medication and trying physio but she is panicked about falling so is refusing to stand/walk.
As for us we head off to WA for two weeks on the 30th. Really need the break, be great to see my girlfriends again. 'cept I'm scared I'll get there and wonder why we left

well its sods law, got torrential rain up there and its forecast to carry on until sunday!!
So sounds like it'll be just like a british holiday, having to find things to do indoors

yes they arrived ok in the end!! stopped off at Sydney and then Coffs Harbour on the way, Col said $100 to park there!! obviously the recession has bypassed them
the show starts tomorrow hope its not going to be a wash out excuse the pun.

Think the weather is supposed to worsen overnight but then looks much brighter again, so hope the rain doesn't put too much of a damper (!) on the show.
Have fun shopping, we didn't do get to see many shops whilst we were there due to running out of time but I do remember a very posh arcade near the Versace, which was far too leg up for me but very pleasant to wander around and there was also Pacific Fair near Broadbeach, which we had a quick look at, Brisbane also had some nice shops, I just thought it was great to see clothes well displayed and nice shop designs

Hi All, I hope everyone is well I've been meaning to ask something the last couple of weeks but keep forgetting!
As most of you know, we've had our PR visa's for over 2 years now, and before getting them and since then we've been regulars looking at properties for sale or rent on realestate.com.au.
I've noticed in the last month or two that some of the area's we've previously been interested in have in some cases gone from offering just 5 rental properties to choose from to over 25 ! and I've been wondering if anyone has any idea why this might be? Are properties not selling at the moment? I still see quite a few "under contract/under offer" comments on realestate and can't see either that prices have dropped much if at all on the Island. There seems to be more on offer for rentals in the North of the Island - places such as Ulverstone....
I know it might just be a phase - but wondered if anyone's aware of anything going on in certain area's!
Our house is currently off the market whilst we're replacing our existing kitchen, and although it looks like we may not definitely make it over this year - we've not given up yet!

Purely my personal opinion but I believe that Tassie is still fairly attractive for an investment property returns whereas a lot of other states arent so much any more. It has also got a lot more difficult for people to get finance, and Tassie has 'generally' been pretty conservative on its valuations so there are probably more people renting as its more of a struggle for the buyers to get finance. We have hopefully got a buyer for my FILs house but it was with a longer finance clause because the banks are also taking longer.
We will be replacing our kitchen once the other house sells too.

Have noticed there are many houses still for sale that were around when we first started looking but they haven't dropped their prices much at all. This might be why there has been an increase in rentals, as if the houses aren't selling perhaps people are renting them out instead?
The other day I read that the property market in Tas was bucking the trend and holding its own where as other states have had some big drops, perhaps that was because their prices rose so high so fast, Perth comes to mind, I know there has been some huge losses there.

Cataract Gorge in the north of the state is worth a visit - both the gorge restaurant and bistro are excellent and the river tours are also great. If you are in Hobart on the weekend, Salamanca markets is worth a visit, if you feel like a drive 'out west' then strahan is also very nice. Cadburys isnt far from Hobart, Boags/Cascade brewery tours I think are also good. Cant think of anything much else at the moment, hopefully some of the others will have suggestions.
Personally I would fly and hire a car, but that would depend on the rate you can get for car hire... the ferry is still paid per person and for a week away you would lose over a day in travel.

We are being swayed a little bit towards the ferry because my Sister said we can borrow her new Mercedes sports car for the week
