Hi yes it was run by St Johns Ambulance, lol noooo you dont suck out the poison anymore. although I was talking to an older lady and thats what they were taught to do at school. I have ordered a frist aid book from st johns it is quite indepth and would be good to have in the home especially as Col hasnt done the course.

yep bird net back in place, not sure how effective they are i'm sure they can still get under but hey ho!

Hi there No worries about the spelling - i'm used to my name being spelt all sorts of ways! It's actually Cathryn and as you can imagine there's so many variations, apart from old school friends & relatives most people just call me Cathy now as it saves me having to spell my version of Cathryn everytime!!!

So it must be very different for you living in Karratha compared to what it was like in Tas?

I'm not actually in Tas yet - i'm one of the Tassie wannabee's on here...
Hopefully this will be our year for moving to the Island...

Hi Kay and peoples.... I know Bridport well, we have friends there, our home in Tassie is Beauty Point..... abolutely beautiful.... Yes Karratha is very different, but it has some positives as most places do hahaha...... but my heart is in Tassie, love it there... My husband comes from Queenstown which again is very different but I am very happpy over Launceston way... Lovely to meet you guys thank you

Karratha is very different. As soon as I set foot in Tasmania I knew the feeling was right, but we have to work a little longer before we can go home to Tasmania for ever. Karratha is exceedingly hot, and the people are from all over Australia, which has its minus and plus points as it very transient. We manage about 4 trips a year back to Tasmania and the company pay for those trips which is handy hahaha.... air fares are much more expensive here but thats par for the course. I have driven over to Tasmania a couple of times through the Nullabor, with very wide open eyes..... I must admit it would be better to have a camper and do it slowly, we were en route to a wedding in Adelaide and I hated the trip (Nullabor means n tree plane) and it was that for sure hahaha..... took time to get used to the road kill hahaha... but then after seeing skippy when i was a kid, that prob made it more difficult hahaha.... but there are some interesting places to visit en route, the Great Australian Bight, Aborigine communities, artists etc. but when we leave Karratha I would like to come over the top next time Darwin way. I am sure you will have no regrets going to Tasmania where abouts are you thinking f living?

Hi Kay, so they have St Johns Ambulance in Australia - i never realised that. Such a good organisation. Good idea to get the book for reference, i must admit i have a Dr Miriam Stoppard (remember her from the TV?), book regarding childhood illness/common illnesses - and i have referred to it loads of times since having the kids... Very handy to have...

Hi It sounds like you've been in Karratha for a while....is your work connected to the mines? it sounds good that you're able to get back to Tasmania 4 times a year - that must help with the homesickness. How long is the drive over to Tasmania from where you are ? That's some journey, but like you say there must be lots of interesting places to visit... It's good that you've got to see lots of Australia doing the journey that way.

At the moment we're kind of undecided about where to try to settle in Tas, when we were over late 2007 we only visited the Hobart area and really wish that we'd ventured to the North of the Island as well...
I just had a look to see where Beauty Point is as i've not come across that area during all my browsing on realestate.com.au but i see your located about 25 miles from both Devonport & Launceston?
We have looked at a place called Ulverstone in the North, but i think as we're more familiar with the South we'll head there 1st and then try and have a good look around again before making a choice... We do think my partner would have more choice for work in the South, although we cant be sure until we come over...
But i had the same feeling yourself when we did come over - i instantly felt very at home, and we thought the Island would be a lovely place for our two children (aged 2 & 5) to grow up...

Hi All, just to update you all - the guy that made that offer was still interested when he got back from holiday this week - but has decided to drop his offer from before he went away down another £10,000... As the original offer was way under our asking price anyway there's no way we can drop a further £10,000 (and dont particularly want to for someone who's going to potentially mess us about) so we're back to hoping for viewers this weekend!

hi there, lol... no I am a Dr. so no not down the mines yet anyway lol.... we dont make a habit of driving over, we only did it the once, we fly up to Perth, Melbourne then Launceston, takes approx 13 hrs... I can do London Bangkok in that time hahaha. The South is also beautiful love Hobart but my husband has all his friends in the North of Tassie so we have a brillient social life there. At present we have house siiters in our home who are excellent but cant wait for the day when we actually say goodbye to WA and venture east. I really hope you sell you home soon, and come over, would be lovely to meet up one day. Lovely place for children to grow up, and I love going over to Melbourne, Sydney etc for breaks, that is cheap and easy... speak soon Love Sam

I moved from the UK to Tas about 8 months ago, with hubby and two children. We are living in Margate just south of Hobart. We have yet to explore the north of the island, hoping to in the Easter hols maybe, looking forward to seeing more of the island as we have only really done the south and south east coast so far.

We are British too, moved here in Oct 07, not really looked back totally love it.
We have a 5 year old boy, our main reason for leaving the Uk to give him more freedom growing up in a relatively safe environment. We are also very happy to say we are expecting our own little Aussie twins due on July 31st, we're really excited about it. We've just been out to buy a dishwasher to make life easier for when they arrive, I just wish we could afford a live in nanny to help out too!!
