Happy New Year to everyone, been back to blighty had a fab time it snowed on our last day which was nice. Was great to see family though got fed up with running around fitting them in and had no real time to go do things we wanted to still it was only a flying visit.

singapore a real let down in our opinion overated and very overpriced :thumbdown:

Welcome back Possums! :) Glad you had a nice time back here in the UK visiting your friends & family - i thought you might see a bit of the snow we had! :D
I went to Singapore on my own about 12 years ago - and i've heard it's changed a hell of a lot since i went back then...i did like it - but more so in the non-touristy parts - it's a shame you never had longer there to enable you to go across to Malaysia - it's not very far to Malacca even, i really liked it there.
Must have been a shock though going from the freezing temperatures we had here to the warmth in Singapore and then the lovely heat where you are now! :lol:

Hi Cathy we stayed in Little India so wasnt in a touristy area, must say the bird park was fantastic as was the zoo.

mmm the heat was lovely when we landed lol, though it only really turned very cold in the last couple of days in the UK.

I think we had colder weather in the South than you had up North! definitely colder than i could remember for years! it's warmed up now thankfully - but it was a shock to have consistent minus temperatures - we're just not used to it! ;) Dreading our next heating bill ;)

You stayed in little India - that was nice you didn't stay in an overly touristy area then. Are you talking about Jurong Bird Park? i went to that one - i remember it being very nice with the netted/enclosed area and having the birds fly around you. I'm sure it's much more impressive now as i went so long ago. I know that Sentosa Island is unrecognisable from when i went too, they've added tons of stuff to there. I have some great photo's of me at Singapore Zoo though - i had one taken with an orangutan sitting next to me - and just as they took the photo he grabbed hold of my leg and squeezed it really hard - it was so funny at the time, but the keeper had to prise his fingers off my leg as he wouldn't let go!!!! :lol: I also had my pic taken with loads of snakes around my neck!

LOL maybe i'm going through the change it didnt seem that cold, and I couldnt get used to the central heating kept having to go outside to cool down :lol:

yes Jurong it was lovely worlds biggest free flying aviary :thumbup: couldnt get my head around Sentosa man made beaches etc and building sites everwhere. it was very hot that day and bottled water was about 10 bucks for a large we'd paid 2 at the supermarket in Lil India!!

saw them taking snake pics at sentosa, one thing that was a bit scary at the zoo was the bird of prey show a vulture was flying back to the keeper and caught him under the eye he was lucky he didnt loose it!! blood everywhere a woman keeper had to take over.

then she flew another vulture over the crowd and it scuffed a bloke on the head he paniced and lunged into this 20 stone woman who then fell onto Colin.. he wasnt impressed :lol: the vulture was sat on the floor dazed eventually they flew it back to its cage :eek:

just read back a bit good luck with the house Cathy I do hope you get a quick sale :)

Hi :) Well it's definitely been cold in our neck of the woods - i doubt you'd have tried to escape the central heating here in Essex - we were so cold we had to have our electric stove fire on in the lounge alongwith the radiators! :eek: Very strange today actually turning the central heating off as it was so mild! ;)
There wasn't anywhere near as much development on Sentosa Island when i went - but i have seen pictures of friends that have since been and didn't recognise the place! I remember i went over on the cable car and came back by boat...and at the time there was one large hotel on the Island by the beaches (but very odd seeing great big tankers etc in the sea as you look out!)... One of my biggest disappointments when i toured around the whole of Malaysia was when we crossed over from Mainland Malaysia to the Island of Penang - i remember being so disappointed at the colour of the sea there - not the kind of paradise island colour i'd anticipated! :lol:

Sounds almost horrific about the vulture show! :eek: Poor keeper! and poor Colin being in the wrong place! :)

Camping was great! We did a fishing charter and caught heaps of fish (I caught the biggest - an Australian Salmon). We did local trips around St. Helen's and Bay of Fire's.

Hi :) I had heard about the attack from Sammy T. & me and Jerzo were talking about it yesterday.... The newspaper article i found on the web said that the girl had known she needed to "punch" the shark to get it to let go of her! That's something i'll try and remember from now on! :lol:
Seriously though - she had a lucky escape really, it was lucky she had someone with her to help her to the shore. Bit worrying that they say you should "stay clear of areas with marine creatures" - wouldn't that be most of the sea then???!!!! :confused:

Have any of you actually seen any sharks since you've been in Tas ?

Hi :) Glad to hear you had a good time camping and it sounds like you had a successful fishing trip then. Did you eat your catch? What was the weather like for you on the east coast whilst you were away? i know it's warmed up quite a bit now. Were you able to swim in the sea?

Yes we ate the fish - flathead is the nicest!

Weather was cool - too cool for swimming - Kids had a couple of dips

I wasn't surprised that you said the kids enjoyed a couple of dips in the sea - they never seem bothered about the cold like adults are! :)

HI Cathy

We went down to Conningham beach last night at about 6pm and it was so warm still but I have to admit the sea was cool but once you were in and moving about you soon warmed up!

Today was not so hot but still really lovely, we are making the most of our new barbie but I must try and extend the repetoire a bit as we do keep having the same things!
